Fats Domino found his thrill on Blueberry Hill.

Visitors to the Farm Credit Farmers Market will be able to find blueberry thrills from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the market’s Blueberry Day.

And they can enter a blueberry dessert contest.

“Celebrate the blueberry season with us,” said Jessica Strickland, Wayne County Extension Service horticulturalist.

The celebration is the latest planned throughout the season to highlight what fruits and produce are available.

Fresh local blueberries will be available to purchase, along with other fruits and produce. There will be other activities, too.

The dessert contest is open to all ages, and entries will be received from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Judging will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Judging will be based on taste (40%); use of blueberries (30%); appearance (20%); and texture (10%).

The recipe much include at least 1 cup of blueberries, and desserts must be homemade.

Contestants must be present during the contest. Contestants may enter more than one recipe, but only one recipe can win.

Entries must be prepared at home and presented at the market ready for judging. Entries will need to serve three to four judges.

Entries may be brought in any type of container, preferably disposable. It is not the responsibility of the farmers market to return any dishes.

The recipe must be submitted with dessert. The winner’s recipe and picture will be published in local media outlets.

Dessert may be served to the audience after judging and announcement of the winner.

Wayne County Extension Family and Consumer Science agent Michelle Estrada will give cooking demonstrations from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Those attending will be able to sample a recipe using blueberries along with receiving recipe and nutritional information.

Extension Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions.

The farmers market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The farmers market is located behind the Maxwell Center, 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive. Follow the market on Facebook and Instagram @farmcreditfarmersmarket.
