More than 6,000 Wayne County residents lost electricity Monday night following damage to Duke Energy transmission lines.

The power outages, reported shortly after 7 p.m., affected three areas of the county.

According to Duke Energy, when reports first came in, 556 customers lost power from West Elm Street to the Lane Tree Golf Club. The outages also were reported in an area south of Wayne UNC Health Care.

More than 2,490 customers lost their service from U.S. 117 east through Stoney Creek and Patetown and northeast to Edmundson Crossroads.

Outages also stretched from the community of Belfast, north beyond Peacock Crossroads and passed Nahunta.

Duke Energy estimated power restoration after 9 p.m., with electricity being restored in some areas at about 8:15 p.m.
