A fifth-grade teacher at Fremont STARS Elementary School has been named to the list of Kenan Fellows.
Christie Frederick is among 27 North Carolina teachers awarded a 2019-2020 fellowship.
The cohort of K-12 teachers from across the state was chosen from a qualified applicant pool of 85 educators following a competitive process.
The educators represent 16 school districts and teach a wide range of grade levels and subjects.
This summer, the Kenan Fellows will spend three weeks interning with local experts in agriculture, scientific research, energy, high-tech manufacturing and other STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math fields.
As part of the award, those selected to the leadership program receive a $5,000 stipend and participate in 80 hours of professional development.
