Police arrested a man on gun and drug charges Saturday after responding to a call of shots fired and drug activity on Olivia Lane, according to a press release.

Joseph Cumberlander, 21, of 700 Marygold St., is charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver crack cocaine, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.

Police were monitoring the 400 block of Olivia Lane around 2:30 p.m. Saturday in reference to several shots being fired in the area and drug activity, the press release said.

Officers found a BMW and a black SUV in the area they believed to be connected to the reported drug activity.

The black SUV began to leave the area, and officers initiated a traffic stop.

Cumberlander then allegedly jumped out of the passenger side with both hands jammed into the front pockets of his sweatshirt and began running.

Police gave chase on foot and caught Cumberlander in the 900 block of Dorsey Street.

According to the press release, officers tracked the path Cumberlander ran and recovered a Glock 26, 16.2 grams of marijuana, 3.9 grams of crack cocaine and a large-capacity magazine.

Cumberlander was also served with outstanding warrants from Wake County and placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $210,000 secured bond.

Based on information stemming from Cumberlander's arrest, officers executed a search warrant on Sunday at a home at 405-C Olivia Lane and found a Remington 1911 .45 caliber handgun that was reported stolen. officers also located 51.2 grams of cocaine, a 50-round drum of 9 millimeter bullets, eight .45 caliber bullets, a pill bottle with pills inside and drug paraphernalia, the release said.

Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau, said he did not know where the information came from that enabled officers to get a search warrant for the residence.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
