MOUNT OLIVE -- Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne hosted its 2018 CEO Build on Friday, April 20, at its newest job site at 202 W. Pollock St.

Joining Habitat and event sponsor David Perry, owner of Goldsboro Builders Supply, this year were nearly a dozen other local business leaders.

They included Bill Bryan of Mt. Olive Pickle Co., Drew Covert of Southern Bank, Clift McCall of Ram Rent-All, Jeff Daniels of Daniels & Daniels, Don Harvey of Hanson Aggregates Southeast, Sherwin Herring of Southco Distributing, Chris Myers of TA Loving, Lyman Smith of Jackson & Sons, Jeremy Smith of BridgePoint Civil and Mike Ellmore also of Goldsboro Builders.

Each participant not only spent the day out helping to build the floor system for this new home, but also made a donation of at least $1,000 either cash or in-kind.

"This is our fifth year sponsoring the CEO Build day, and it's just a great day of fellowship and an opportunity to support a great cause -- a hand up, not a hand out," Perry said. "I look forward to it every year, and I encourage everyone who has an opportunity to support Habitat to do so."

It was the first event of several that Habitat officials say that they hope will eventually help get the roof on Richshawn Pratt's new home before Memorial Day.

"The CEO Build is a great event every year. Having this group come out and give of their time and resources, many of them year after year, shows just how much the Wayne County community cares about each other," said Habitat Executive Director Matt Whittle. "Habitat has been blessed with this great lot in a wonderful location, and now we're looking forward to our next events and seeing Ms. Pratt's new home start to come together."

Next up for Habitat is this weekend's N.C. Pickle Festival, during which the job site will be open from 8 a.m. to noon for any interested volunteers age 16 and older.

Then on May 10 to 12, the annual Women Build will be held in Mount Olive, and on May 19, Habitat is asking for any and all interested volunteers or observers to come out to help or watch as the roof begins to go on.
