A new Hobby Lobby craft and home decor store is set to open in Goldsboro in the former Kmart building on North Berkeley Boulevard in March.
Company officials announced the planned opening late Wednesday that includes the renovation of a 50,000-square-foot store, which has already started, with the goal of opening by the middle of March. The company plans to hire 35 and 50 employees, with full-time pay at $15.70 per hour and part-time employees making $10.45 per hour.
“The success of our stores in North Carolina is a good indicator that Goldsboro shoppers will be pleased with the quality, selection and value we offer in the craft and home decor market,” said Kelly Black, Hobby Lobby’s director of advertising. “New customers and customers already familiar with the Hobby Lobby shopping experience are eagerly anticipating this store opening.”
Hobby Lobby currently has 30 locations in North Carolina, including stores located in Rocky Mount, Greenville and Wilson.
Hobby Lobby is expected to open almost exactly two years after Kmart closed its doors in 2017.The shopping center where Kmart was previously located has experienced an uptick in new business activity with the more recent openings of Harbor Freight Tools, Planet Fitness and Ashley Furniture.
Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby has more than 800 stores across the nation where more than 70,000 crafting and home decor products, including floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper-crafting supplies, are sold.
The store’s planned hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday.
