A 29-year-old airman was arrested and charged Thursday with first-degree statutory sex offense allegedly involving a 6-year-old child.
Brandon Tyler Thomas, 29, of Rouse Road in Kinston, was taken into custody at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the Security Forces complex at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, 1100 Guardian Road, by officers from several agencies, including the Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, said LaToya Henry, Goldsboro public information officer.
Thomas, a senior airman, was charged after being identified as a suspect after Goldsboro police received a May 30 report that a 6-year-old child had allegedly been sexually assaulted at Sawgrass Place. Police did not confirm if the child was a boy or girl.
Katrina Heikkinen, 4th Fighter Wing public affairs officer at SJAFB, confirmed Thomas is an enlisted airman stationed at the base but declined to offer additional information.
“Senior Airman Brandon Thomas, a member assigned to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base was arrested for first-degree statutory sex offense,” she said. “At this time the incident is still under investigation and additional details will be released at a later time.”
Thomas was booked in the Wayne County jail under a $350,000 secured bond.
