FREMONT — The Fremont Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Monday to approve the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department’s expansion into the former Fremont Volunteer Rescue Squad building during a special called meeting of the board.

The unanimous vote came less than a week after Jeff Brooks, Fremont Volunteer Fire Department chief, requested the approval at the board’s monthly meeting, which was held Sept. 20. Board members Keith Spivey and Terry Futrell and Mayor Darron Flowers did not attend the previous meeting, so Joyce Artis, mayor pro tem, led the meeting in Flowers’ absence.
