The Goldsboro-Wayne branch of the NAACP will host an American Red Cross blood drive July 29 at Deeper Life Church Ministries.

The blood drive will be from 1 to 6 p.m. at the church, located at 900 Eleventh St.

“I am excited about this opportunity to partner with the Goldsboro-Wayne NAACP,” said Miranda Harrison, Red Cross account manager for donor recruitment. “Right now, the Red Cross has a critical need for African American and Black individuals to give blood following a decline in donations needed for patients with sickle cell disease amid this COVID-19 outbreak.”

To schedule an appointment, visit and enter “Goldsboro NAACP.”

The Red Cross needs all eligible donors, and youths age 16 and older can donate as long as they have a signed parental consent form.

The Red Cross will also offer additional services, including a free health screening that includes checking temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate and hemoglobin levels. A separate screening test for sickle cell trait status will also be available.
