Chauncy K. Douglas was motivated to write her first book because she cares about people and wants to inspire them to seek love for themselves and others.
“I’ve always written, I’m more of a poetess, but I sing and write music as well,” said Douglas. “During the pandemic, I was going to the beach a lot at that time. The beach is where I find peace and tranquility, and the book just popped into my very being.
“The title of the book is ‘It’s Simply Love,’ and I was called as a child a love child.”
Born in Charlotte and partially raised in Goldsboro, Douglas graduated from Goldsboro High School. She attended Hampton University before going to The Juilliard School for two years.
She has lived in nine states and traveled throughout the United States, France, Africa and India, spreading love everywhere she goes.
“It’s Simply Love” is a self-help guide that invites the reader to explore undiscovered areas of themselves while using a reflection page at the end of each chapter to record what resonates within them, said Douglas.
A retired educator, author and founder of Lighthouse of Love Ministries, Douglas said she used her life experiences to write the book.
“I’m a very personable person, and I genuinely care about people and really love people,” said Douglas. “No matter what, even if you don’t like me. I can love you, but I don’t have to like you.”
She views the book as a motivational and inspirational tool to spread God’s message about the transformative power of love.
“The book is for others. I found so many times that people don’t even know themselves, and they definitely don’t love themselves, don’t find themselves worthy or sabotage relationships,” said Douglas.
Writing the book was never about the money, she said. It’s a labor of love and a way to help others find love and respect for themselves and how to ask for love in return.
“I’m not so much concerned about making money. I want this book to penetrate the hearts and minds of people who are void of love, who really don’t know or understand themselves,” said Douglas. “I believe, and many have said, that the book penetrates people to their core.”
