A North Carolina State University graduate has been hired to cover sports and news for the Goldsboro News Argus.
Chandler Johnson started working for the News Argus as a stringer earlier this year prior to being offered the full-time post in the newsroom.
“Chandler is a great addition for us in the newsroom, and we look forward to him continuing to increase our local sports coverage of area games, as well as telling stories about local athletes and coaches,” said Editor Rochelle Moore.
“He started working for us during the pandemic and has already offered readers great coverage we know they missed for almost a year when sports came to a halt, in March 2020, because of COVID-19 concerns.”
Johnson, a Nash County native, earned a bachelor’s degree in media communications from NCSU in 2020. While in college, he worked as sports writer for the NCSU newspaper, The Technician.
“I really enjoyed my time there writing sports, and that’s kind of when I realized that’s what I wanted to do for my career,” Johnson said.
“I’ve been a sports fan all my life. Sports coverage is important to me.”
A lifelong sports fan, Johnson said when not writing about sports, he enjoys watching professional football, baseball and basketball.
In addition to sports, Johnson will also write general assignment news stories.
He said he is eager to learn more about Wayne County.
“I’m just looking forward to meeting everybody in the community and writing more stories and covering more sports,” Johnson said.
