According to a press release from the N.C. Department of Public Safety, Jeremy Steve Dillon, 36, was found unresponsive in his cell at 11:55 a.m. Thursday.
First responders working at the facility and Wayne County Emergency Medical Services personnel who were called in to help worked to revive him but were unsuccessful.
Dillon was pronounced dead at 12:18 p.m. His death is under investigation.
Brad Deen, DPS communications officer, said he could not confirm exactly what caused Dillon’s death.
“We do not comment on that,” Dean said.
