A Goldsboro man is facing felony sexual misconduct charges after a nearly yearlong joint investigation between the State Bureau of Investigation and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children division of the SBI and sheriff’s office Special Victims Unit arrested and charged Brantley Morris Gurley, 34, of Oakland Church Road, with two felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Sheriff’s deputies first began investigating Gurley in July after receiving a report of an unknown suspect targeting minors on the internet through social media, according to Capt. Shawn Harris with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. The SBI took over the case due to the types of investigative methods, complexity of the case and companies out of state storing the internet data needed.
Agents secured warrants for Gurley’s arrest, and he was taken into custody.
Gurley was booked in the Wayne County jail under a $20,000 secured bond.
