A Goldsboro man was killed when he was struck by two vehicles on Dollard Town Road Saturday night.

N.C. Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. John Bobbitt said Joel Jerome Smith, 63, of Goldsboro was standing in the middle of Dollard Town Road, near Lake Wackena Road, with his back facing traffic around 7 p.m. Saturday. Smith was inviting people to attend a community outreach service when he was hit by a 2016 Nissan Altima and a 2015 Chrysler 200S heading west on Dollard Town Road.

Smith was hit first by the 2016 Nissan Altima, which was driven by Steven Joshua Burchett, of Goldsboro, and was struck shortly after by the 2015 Chrysler 200S, which was driven by Diane Lynn Boatright, of Goldsboro.

Both drivers reported Smith was wearing dark clothing and that they did not see him in the road because it was dark out, Bobbitt said. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, Bobbitt said troopers do not think alcohol was involved in the accident.
