In loving memory of the late Doris Josetta Glaspie, a native of Goldsboro, N.C., who resided and passed in Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 25, 2018.

She was the fifth child of the late the Rev. Mary Mitchell-Glaspie and James A. Glaspie Sr and the granddaughter of the late pastor Dora Margaret and Milford Mitchell and the late Arthur and Hilda Glaspie.

We celebrate her life and legacy as a renowned minister of music in Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral will be at Love Temple Headquarters of the Southern District Convocation in Goldsboro, N.C., located at 201 N. Oak Forest Road in Goldsboro.

Her celebration of life service is Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m.

Steve Wesley Jones, 72, Princeton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at his home.

Mr. Jones was born Feb. 11, 1946, in Shelby, N.C., to the late Clyde Wesley and Mary Brooks Jones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Kenneth “Deacon” Jones, and a sister, Lillian Jones Hollowell.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Christian Powell and the Rev. Dann Patrick officiating. The burial will take place at 11 Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Steve enjoyed many things in life.

His dedication to Princeton School sports was immeasurable, especially when it came to the football program.

He loved fishing, and was an avid North Carolina State fan and a Yankees fan.

Steve was a proud United States veteran having served in the Navy.

He had an immense love for Faith Free Will Baptist Church and his church family.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Kornegay Jones; daughter, Stefanie Patel and husband, Jason, of Princeton; sisters and brother-in-law, Frances Roberts of Hiddenite and Grace Pearce and husband, Frank, of Princeton; sister-in-law, Faye Woodall Jones of Princeton; special extended family, Christian, Erin, Andrew and Elisha Powell; numerous nieces and nephews; and special canine friends, Little Buddy and Little Bit.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro, N.C.

Died Nov. 9, 2018

Prophetess Jennifer Lucas, 74, peacefully passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, in Philadelphia, Pa., after a long battle with illness.

She is survived by her husband, Sidney Lucas; her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, godchildren; family; and friends.

Jennifer moved from Philadelphia to Pikeville, N.C., in 2001 with her husband, father and mother.

Jennifer worked as an esthetician at Belk department store, and was an elder at Elm Grove Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Judith Mercer Carawan, 75, Newport, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A celebration of life service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughter, Christina Carawan Hewlett and husband Timothy, of Pfafftown, N.C.; stepdaughter, Teresa Reich of Raleigh; stepson, Michael Carawan of Virginia; grandchildren, Faith Hewlett, Carson Hewlett, Carolyn Mitchell, Daniel Carawan and Domenica Carrillo; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace L. Carawan.

Michael Prebula passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at his home in Mulvane, Kansas.

He was born Nov. 3, 1951, at Fort Bragg, N.C., and raised in Montrose, Pa., and Goldsboro, N.C. He was the son of the late Josephine Peele Prebula of Goldsboro and the grandson of George W. Peele and Aunita Lancaster Peele of Patetown, N.C.

Michael is survived by his son, Nicholas Prebula and his wife, Vickie; his grandsons, Douglas and Mikey Prebula of Mulvane, Kan.; his siblings, Mary Aunita Prebula of Atlanta, Ga., and George Peele Prebula and his wife, Pamela, of Hillsborough, N.C.; and many extended family.

Retired Master Sgt. Prebula was a decorated and patriotic soldier. He served eight years in the United States Navy, where he was a Navy diver, Navy Seal Team 2 UDT 21 and memorably served as a plank member on the USS Hewitt out of San Diego, Calif.

Prebula then served his country with the Kansas Army National Guard as a recruiter until retirement.

He was awarded a Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Navy Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Navy Combat Action Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Award, Scuba Diver Badge, United States Navy Parachute Insignia, United States Army Gold Recruiter Badge and Career Counselor Badge.

Michael served 17 years as a boilermaker between and after military stints, and was a retired union boilermaker out of Local 83, Kansas City, Mo.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Nov. 8, in Wichita, Kan. American Legion Post 136 provided a flag line, and the Navy Honor Guard presented the American flag to his son in honor of his service. 410 S.E. Louis, Mulvane.

Retired United States Master Sgt. Thaddius Bryant Duke, 71, St. George, husband of Kay R. Dukes, entered into eternal rest Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at his residence.

A graveside service with full honors by the United States Air Force will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at Beaufort National Cemetery.

Thad was born May 1, 1947, in Reevesville, S.C., a son of the late Thomas Bryant and Elizabeth Berry Dukes.

He was a graduate of St. George High School.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1967, serving in the Vietnam War and the Gulf War for 26 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Ruth Dukes; two sons, Thaddius B. “Bryan” (Anjela) Dukes Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., and Robert Edward Dukes of St. George, S.C.; brothers, Martin (Francis) Dukes of North Charleston, Fred (Dorothy) Dukes of Dorchester and Kit (Crystye) Dukes of St. George; sisters, Evelyn Rollins of Summerville and Peggy (H.L.) Proctor of Cope; and special friends, Antonio Daniels and Richard Gascon.

Joey Fred Hood, 51, Grantham, passed away suddenly Sunday at his home.

Joey was the proud son of Joyce Grady Proctor of Grantham and the late Fred Gilmore Hood.

He was a 1985 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

A lifelong farmer and trusted friend and neighbor, Joey worked from sun up to sun down on his farm, demonstrating a strong work ethic.

Joey will always be remembered for his love of a good practical joke, whether done to him or by him, as well as his true love of family, friends, life and work.

Most of all, Joey enjoyed the time he spent with his wife and son.

A service to celebrate Joey’s life will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends Thursday immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.

Joey is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Deana Daniels Hood; son, Joseph Daniel Hood; mother, Joyce H. Proctor; mother-in-law, Linda Daniels; and several other family members he loved very much.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, George L. Proctor.

She was born in Wayne County Jan. 23, 1945, to the late Raymond and Lucy Morris Monk.
