Parrott Academy’s volunteer service honor society, SERV, recently inducted 181 high school students who had each dedicated at least 12 hours of service during the 2018-19 school year.

Of those, 11 new members were from Wayne County, including Jeff Bland, Blythe Brantley, Sofia Brantley, Brianne Cregan, Koleman Denton, Cole Grady, Gage Grady, Garrett Grady, Landon Kearney, Arden Riddle and Sarah Stockton.

While volunteer service is not a requirement at the private school in Kinston, SERV helps make students aware of opportunities in their respective communities. Students are also motivated to discover the joy of helping others, officials said.

During the March 20 induction ceremony, Goldsboro resident Jeff Bland joined other members of the SERV student advisory council in speaking about his experience volunteering. He also designed this year’s SERV T-shirt, which was presented to each inductee.
