Goldsboro police have identified the 17-year-old who died from injuries he sustained in a shooting on Saturday.

Jahlil Teachey, 17, of 211 Banks Ave., was found just after 11 a.m. on Saturday when police responded to a shooting. When police arrived, they discovered Teachey suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. First responders took him to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries later in the day on Saturday.

Ken Derksen, Wayne County Public Schools spokesman, confirmed that Teachey was a student at Wayne Academy. Derksen said that the district crisis team was at the school on Monday to offer support.

Police have not said what led to the shooting and if any charges will be filed. Saturday officers recovered two firearms from the scene.

Police said that the shooting remains under investigation. In an earlier statement, police said their investigation revealed that Teachey might have been accidentally shot by a known acquaintance.

Saturday family and friends gathered along the 200 block of Banks Avenue looking for answers. There were hugs and tears as they learned of the sudden loss.
