Police investigating a Goldsboro shooting

Police cordon off an area of Virginia and Brownrigg streets Friday while they investigate a shooting that left at least one person injured.

Goldsboro police are investigating a shooting in the northern part of the city.

Police responded to a shots-fired call in the 900 block of N. George Street. North Virginia and Brownrigg streets around 12:15 p.m., said Sgt. Brandon Harper, with the Goldsboro Police Department. Shortly after the call, police received reports of an injured female. Upon arrival, police found a woman suffering from a gunshot to her hand, Harper said. She was identified as Kaniesha Cooper of Goldsboro was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

While attending to Cooper, officers received a call from Wayne UNC Health Care concerning an additional gunshot victim who arrived at the emergency department by personal vehicle. The man was later identified as Dwayne Lee Hardy of Goldsboro, who was transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment of his injuries. He was listed in critical condition, police report.

Through further investigation, it was determined that the shootings took place at 305 Brownrigg Street. The Criminal Investigations Division responded in addition to the Crime Scene Unit. The investigation continues.
