Organizations and services all over Wayne County are modifying their hours in response to potential snow expected to begin falling.
Wayne Community College closed at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and remained closed for the rest of the day and all day today. Normal operations are expected to resume on Friday. Online and hybrid classes will be available through Moodle beginning at 8 a.m. today.
Wayne County Public Schools will be closed for both staff and students on today. Schools released three hours early Wednesday, with Wayne School of Engineering and Wayne Early Middle College High School closed all day.
Craig Honeycutt, Wayne County manager, said that a decision on operating hours for county offices would be made early this morning. All branches of the Wayne County Public Library closed at 6 p.m. Wednesday because of the approaching storm.
In addition, for the same reasons, the Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will also close at 5 p.m. today and Friday.
In Fremont, town hall closed at 4 p.m. Wednesday and will open at 10:30 a.m. today. Town finance officer Shameshia Fennell said that the schedule may change or town hall may be closed depending on the severity of the weather today.
Pikeville town hall was staying open Wednesday evening for the town's Board of Commissioners meeting. Town Administrator Lisa Pate said she had not been told of any plans to close the town hall today.
