Wayne County Public Schools recently began its annual summer flex schedule, operating on a 10-hour-day/four-day workweek.

From June 17 through Aug. 9, the entire district will be closed on Fridays.

Administrative offices and all schools on the traditional academic calendar will be open Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The three schools operating on the non-traditional academic calendar — Goldsboro High, Wayne Early/Middle College High School and Wayne School of Engineering — will follow the same hourly schedule. However, their dates for the four-day workweek are June 3 through July 26.

The district began implementing a flex four-day work schedule in 2006 to cut operation expenses over the summer months. In addition to being closed on Fridays, the district will also be closed July 4, which falls on a Thursday this year, to observe the Fourth of July holiday.
