An airman stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force was found dead at an off-base residence.

Senior Airman Ken Boyton, public affairs specialist for Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, said the airman was found dead around 4:55 p.m. Wednesday but could not release any additional details about the death.

Boyton declined to release the name and age of the airman and said the death is still under investigation.

“Our thoughts go out to family and friends who have been affected by this tragic incident,” said Col. Donn Yates, 4th Fighter Wing commander. “Members of the 4th Fighter Wing are a tight-knit community, and our hearts are heavy with the loss of an integral team member.”

Boyton said the airman’s family was notified and services are being provided.
