A suspect in an early March shooting on Mimosa Street was arrested Sunday evening after a traffic stop.
Goldsboro police arrested and charged Alexander Rickey Shaw Jr., 25, of Central Heights Road, with attempted first-degree murder. He was booked in the Wayne County jail under a $2.5 million secured bond.
Police arrested Shaw after pulling him over for speeding down South Audubon Avenue, said LaToya Henry, public information officer for the city of Goldsboro. Henry said police had secured a warrant for Shaw’s arrest on attempted murder charges at the time of the traffic stop, she said.
Goldsboro police identified Shaw as a validated gang member, Henry said.
Shaw’s first court appearance was Monday.
Shaw is a suspect in a shooting that occurred at 1404 Mimosa St. on March 2, Henry said. Officers who responded to the shooting found Steven Belle Britt, 75, of Mimosa Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Britt, who was in critical condition, was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care and later to Vidant Medical Center for further treatment.
Goldsboro police secured a warrant for Shaw’s arrest on March 11 for the attempted murder.
Police are not releasing specific details about the attempted murder or the investigation, Henry said. Police will not say how the suspect and victim knew each other or what led up to the shooting due to the ongoing investigation, she said.
