A Goldsboro teenager was arrested and charged on Christmas Day with first-degree statutory rape after a seven-month investigation by Wayne County sheriff deputies.
Daniel Ricks Turnage, 18, of 2507 Old Smithfield Road, was charged with first-degree statutory rape and booked in the Wayne County jail under a $350,000 secured bond.
Turnage emerged as a suspect during the investigation of the alleged sexual assault of a girl under the age of 16 that reportedly took place before the month of June.
Maj. Richard Lewis, with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, declined to disclose the age of the girl but said she was younger than 16.
A private lab processed several pieces of evidence that were collected during the investigation. Turnage was arrested and charged by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit as a result of evidence reviewed during the investigation.
Capt. Shawn Harris said the investigation is ongoing and declined to provide additional details in an effort to protect the girl’s identity.
