Two people were killed in a head-on collision just outside of Pikeville on U.S. 117 Friday morning.
Judy Sutherland, 71, of Goldsboro, was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger that drifted over the center line and collided head-on with a 2006 Chevy Colorado headed north in the opposite lane, said N.C. Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. John Bobbitt.
Sutherland and Vincenzo Manzulli, 71, of Pikeville, who was driving the Chevy Colorado, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, Bobbitt said.
Bobbitt said it does not appear that the weather played a role in the fatal accident. Medical examiners are investigating whether Sutherland was experiencing any medical issues at the time of the accident, he said.
