Goldsboro police responded to a shooting that sent a woman to the hospital Monday.
Just after 10 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting that took place in the 900 block of Fairview Circle.
According to a police statement, 25-year-old Markita Kornegay of 922 Fairview Circle was grazed by a bullet that entered her apartment through her window. She was taken by emergency personnel to Wayne UNC Health Care. Police reports did not list Kornegay’s condition.
Police arrested 35-year-old Icshon Zaquan Jones. He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of firing into an occupied dwelling. Jones was booked in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $2.5 million bond.
Police have not said what led to the shooting or how Jones and Kornegay knew each other.
Police Maj. Anthony Carmon with the investigation division said that evidence does not show the shooting is connected to other shootings that have taken place within the last two months.
The shooting is the second incident to occur in Goldsboro public housing in less than 24 hours. Three women were arrested on drug and alcohol charges Monday at The Grand at Day Point public housing, on Day Circle Road.
Law enforcement arrested 24-year-old Darnisha Dunn, 23-year-old Kenyonna S. Fuller and 51-year-old Valerie Dupuy.
