Selva J. “Pop” Tart, 96, passed away Saturday at Kitty Askins.

He was born in Snow Hill to the late L.V. and Lillie Belle Shirley Tart.

During World War II in 1943, Selva started his long career as a certified pipe welder at the North Carolina Shipbuilding Yard in Wilmington, N.C.

He also worked at Norfolk Navy Yard in Norfolk, Va., and Newport News Navy Yard in Newport News, Va.

In the later part of 1949, Selva came to Goldsboro to work for Jenkins Structural Steele, then for Dewey Brothers for seven years.

In 1957, Selva joined the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States. This opportunity allowed Selva to work in many places throughout the east coast on many building and construction jobs, including Carolina Power and Light, Moncure, N.C.; Rosemary Textile, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; Allied Chemical, Hopewell, Va.; Franklin Paper Mill, Franklin, Va.; H.F. Lee Power Plant, Goldsboro, N.C.; E.I. Dupont, Kinston, N.C.; East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.; Texas Gulf, Plymouth, N.C.; Pope Air Force Base, Fort Bragg, N.C.; Kelly Springfield Tire, Fayetteville, N.C.; and finally in 1974, Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Lusby, Md., where he became disabled and had to retire.

Selva was married to the late Mollie Elmore Tart May 19, 1951, for 63 years liken nine days when she passed away May 10, 2014.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, J.C., Ollie and Major, and a sister, Clara Bell.

Selva is survived by his children, Jean Tart Rea and Randy Goddard of Charlotte, Ann Tart Plumley and husband, Rick, of Goldsboro, and Don Alan Tart and Karen Jones of Ball Ground, Ga.; grandchildren, Dana Wadsworth-Strole and husband, Curtis, and Clark and Blake Rea; a sister, Audrey Brion of Snow Hill; a brother, David W. Tart Sr. and wife, Beverly, of Hinesville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tart loved performing with his dobro and lap steel guitars for local audiences.

Mr. Tart was a faithful member of Black Jack Grove Free Will Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Franklin Lane officiating.

The family will receive friends at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Donnie Clinton Bell, 88, Stantonsburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Watery Branch Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a member and served as trustee, deacon, treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Interment will follow at Eureka Cemetery.

Mr. Bell was born in Wayne County Aug. 12, 1930, to the late Clinton and Clyde Cook Bell.

He was retired from F.W. Woolworth’s after 35 years of service.

Mr. Bell was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Joan C. Bell; one son, Donnie Clyde “Bucky” Bell and wife, Pamela, of Stantonsburg; two daughters, Terry Lynn Bell of Burlington, N.C., and Tonya Bell Watkins and husband, Allen, of Watery Branch; one stepdaughter, Angela W. Smith and husband, Jason, of Wilmington; one sister, Nell Bell Lagowski of Arizona; eight grandchildren, Michael Bowers, Donnie Clinton Bell II and wife, Autumn, Michelle Chamberlin and husband, Andrew, Allen Bell, Lexi Bell, Ashlyn Watkins, Annabelle Watkins and Addison “Abigail” Watkins; three stepgrandchildren, Makayla Smith, Colton Smith and Blake Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Batts Bell; three brothers, Willie Bell, Ralph “Buddy” Bell and Ceyna Bell; and three sisters, Retha Walston, Marjorie Taylor and Dorothy Mooring.

Mr. Bell was a loving father and husband, who taught love, peace and the saving grace of Jesus Christ to his family. He loved his church family, brothers and sisters. He adored his wife, children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was surrounded by his loved ones as he took his flight up to the heavenly gates.

The family received friends Saturday evening, April 27, 2019, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Watery Branch Free Will Baptist Church, 425 Watery Branch Church Road in Stantonsburg.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be directed to Watery Branch Free Will Baptist Church for the youth ministry in honor of Mr. Bell.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.

She was born in Duplin County Oct. 14, 1930, to the late Ralph and Bessie Cooper Jones. She was married to the late Norman Jones.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Leona Jackson Brinson, 99, Kenansville, died Friday at The Magnolia, Clinton.

She was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Duplin County to James Hopkins and Lucy Brinson Jackson. She was married to the late Maurice Brinson.

She is survived by a son and a daughter.

Theresa Linnet Dillahunt, 48, 211 Capeson Lane, New Bern, died Wednesday at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

She was born in Wayne County June 8, 1926, to the late Tommy Oscar and Lannie Oliver Gurley. She was married to the late Claude Benjamin “C.B.” Turnage and the late Joe Peacock.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters.
