Shirley Singleton Sorrell, 78, LaGrange, passed away Dec. 25, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro after a brief illness.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following, at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange, N.C.

Shirley was born in Pine Level, N.C., to Kirby and Lola Gurley Singleton Oct. 9, 1940.

She went to LaGrange High School and Hardbarger Business School in Raleigh.

She married Vernon Sorrell Dec. 27, 1964, at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange.

She worked for General Motors for 30 years, and was able to retire in 1992.

Shirley was an active member of LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, former LaGrange Rescue Squad volunteer, Red Cross volunteer and a participant of the Galaxy of Sports bowling league for many years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Singleton.

Shirley is survived by her spouse, Vernon Sorrell; two children, Vicki Lemmond and Eric of Cedar Point and Greg Sorrell and Donna of Greenville; grandchildren, Monica Swinn and Mike, Autumn and Hunter Sorrell all of Greenville; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Everett Swinn of Greenville; and a sister, Ann Kennedy and Ronald of Pink Hill.

Major Ray Tillman, 73, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Major was born in Wayne County Dec. 29, 1944, to the late Major Retho Tillman and Ina Mae Hubert Tillman.

He was a retired electrician and an avid fisherman.

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service at 3 p.m. to celebrate Major’s life in the chapel with chaplain Ramon Mizell officiating.

Major is survived by his wife, Jenny Tillman; daughters, Crystal Gray and husband, John, of LaGrange, Jennifer Tillman of Goldsboro and Margaret Tillman Wiggins of Tennessee; his in-laws, Charles E. Adkins and Margaret V. Garnes Adkins of Suffolk, Va.; and his grandchildren and the apples of his eye, Dalton Gray, Mikey Wiggins, Matt Wiggins and Jerry Ray Smith, who was the last light of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Mitchell, and brothers, Junior Bray Tillman, Robert Tillman and Bud Tillman.

Jimmy Wayne Worrells, 52, of the Mount Olive area, passed away Christmas night, Dec. 25, at Wilson Medical Center.

Jimmy had served in the United States Army, and was a truck driver, hauling livestock and logging timbers, and he was an avid fisherman.

Jimmy is survived by his mother, Dorothy Jones Pate of Mount Olive; three children, Jimmy Wayne Worrells Jr. and wife, Karen, of Texas and Cody Worrells and Taylor Worrells both of Mount Olive; three grandchildren, Eli, Memphis and William Worrells; a sister, Chris W. Earp and husband, Chris, of Sims; four honorary children, Harley, Raven, Rilley and Slade Powell; and two nephews, Chad and Luke Earp.

He was preceded in death by infant twins, Patrick and Dillon Worrells; his father, Willis MacArthur Worrells; and his stepfather, Walter Pate.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, followed by visitation. At other times, friends and family are being received at the home of Chris Earps, 5117 Armetus Road, Sims, N.C., in the Pennington Place subdivision.

Committal and burial will be Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4269 Cleveland Road, Smithfield, N.C.
