Virginia H Benton

Jan. 27, 1926-Dec. 13, 2018

Virginia Hill Benton, 92, LaGrange, was called to her heavenly reward Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018.

Virginia was born in Wayne County Jan. 27, 1926, to the late Jacob Freeze Hill II and Cindy Arilla Newsome Hill.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Harold Benton.

For Virginia, the sun, the moon and the stars rose and set on her husband. She loved him deeply, and took great pride in the life they built together. Her devotion to him was at the center of all she did.

Her world revolved around the happiness and well-being of her family. As a wife and homemaker, she raised their children with great strength. Though she was strongly opinionated and didn’t hesitate to share her opinions with her family, she said everything with gentleness and love. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was proud to dote on each one of them. Her great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter were the apples of her eye.

Virginia enjoyed a simple life. She was proud of her home and kept it immaculate. The time she spent in the kitchen came with great reward, as her families’ fondest memories are of times spent around her table. Virginia was the best cook, and no one could make chicken pastry and homemade biscuits like she could. Her tea cakes and applesauce cakes were second to none, and her cornbread was perfection.

A longtime member of Beston United Methodist Church, Virginia loved her Lord and her church family.

Her demeanor and smile endeared her to all she met. Her life and legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she has touched.

Virginia is survived by her two sons, Delvin Benton and Ken Benton and wife, Terry; six grandchildren, Jacob Benton and wife, Penny, Jason Benton and wife, Amanda, Paul Benton and wife, Stephanie, Donald Benton and wife, Amy, Karen Vernon and husband, Preston, and David Benton and wife, Elizabeth; 13 great-grandchildren, Laney, Carter, Maggie, Will, Peyton, Josh, Jessica, Julia, Ashley, Aiden, Emily, Amber and Harold; and one great-great-grandchild, SkyLynn.

In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was preceded in death by a brother, Simon Hill, and sister, Nora Hill Anderson.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.

A private family graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Virginia’s memory may be made to Beston United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. George Ritko, 1501 E. Mulberry St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home.
