Evelyn Merritt Odom

Evelyn Merritt Odom, 89, of Raleigh, born in Goldsboro, N.C., was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie May Merritt from Mount Olive, and by her father, Creo Waverly Merritt from Dover. Evelyn loved her parents and greatly respected her father, Creo, who owned Merritt’s Super Market on Royall Avenue for 60 years.
Evelyn Odom married Edward Perry Odom Sr. of Goldsboro and moved to Raleigh in the ‘50s, but she drove to Goldsboro weekly to help her parents in the store and life.
Evelyn is survived by one loving son, H. Lee Odom of Clayton, N.C.; and one loving granddaughter, Ashley Odom Guerrero and husband, Alex, of Cary, N.C.; and Ashley’s mother, Amy Jeffreys Odom. Evelyn’s niece, Carol Merritt Long and Carol’s husband, George Emerson Long, were always there for their aunt Evelyn, thank you.
Evelyn Odom’s last words to Lee and Ashley: “I love you both.”
The family wishes to extend a special thanks and appreciation to Carillon Assisted Living in Fuquay-Varina. In addition, a special thank you to Wake Memorial in Cary and Hospice.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, in Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton.

Peggy Ann Proctor Rodgers, 87, died Friday at home.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will be Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
She was born in Wilson County on Aug. 22, 1931, to Luther Preston Proctor and Clyde Varnell Proctor.
She was married to George Woodrow Rodgers.
She is survived by a daughter.
Otis R. Hill
Nov. 4, 1924-Feb. 23, 2019
Otis Rudolph Hill, 94, of Lucama, died Saturday at WakeMed in Raleigh.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will follow in Forehand Cemetery in Pikeville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born in Wilson County on Nov. 4, 1924, to Otis and Emma Barnes Hill.
He was married to Pauline Sasser Hill.
He is survived by two sons.
Herman G. Porter
Herman George Porter, 85, died Sunday at Wayne UNC Health Care.
