Mrs. Retha Mae Exum Whitfield, 87, 205 Thomas St., Goldsboro, N.C., passed away Feb. 3, 2019.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Greater St. John Free Will Baptist Church, 613 Mitchell Road, Dudley, N.C. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange, N.C.

A public visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Central Heights Church, 302 Ervin Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. The family will receive friends at the home, where it will assemble Saturday at noon in preparation for the funeral procession.

Calvin Steele “Ted” Tillman, 88, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Wayne UNC Health Care surrounded by his family.

Ted was born in Wayne County April 3, 1930, the youngest child of 13, to the late William Henry Tillman and Gola Summerlin Tillman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Bradshaw Tillman.

Ted had worked as a butcher, and retired from the meat department at the commissary on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Ted was stationed in Germany, and proudly served his country as a tank operator in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church. Ted was devoted to his church, and was involved in many of its ministries, where he utilized his abilities to share the love of God.

A service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Liz Hounshell and the Rev. Sandy Schaller officiating. A private interment for the family will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Ted is survived by his daughters, Vicki Phillips and husband, Tony, of Goldsboro and Lynette Overman and husband, John, of Pikeville; grandchildren, Nathan Overman, Matthew Overman and wife, Samantha, Mitchell Phillips and wife, Mary Beth, and Rebecca Harris and husband, Will; great-grandchildren, Avie Overman, Sarah Overman, Greyson Phillips, Everly Phillips and Ivey Kate Harris; and was anticipating the birth of Collins Tillman Harris in May.

Margaret Wall Spivey, 100, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully Monday after a long and fulfilled life.

Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lila Childers Wall.

Margaret was married to the late Joseph “Jack” Franklin Spivey.

For more than 20 years, she owned and operated a clothing alterations business in Virginia.

A service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times the family will be at the home of Willie Nelson.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Wilhelmina Spivey Nelson of Goldsboro and Teresa “T.J.” Spivey Farlow and husband, Tim, of Concord; son, Joseph Dwight Spivey and wife, Mary Jane, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Les Nelson; brother, Charlie L. Wall Jr.; and grandson-in-law, Joe Cochrane.

Daniel Dexton Mozingo, 88, died Tuesday evening at Willow Creek surrounded by his friends and family.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Effie Hazel Toler Mozingo.

Dexton grew up in Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, and more recently, Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a dedicated and loyal member.

He was employed by the Goldsboro city police department, where he served the community for five years.

He then worked 24 years as the fleet supervisor for Franklin Baking Co.

He went on to own and operate the Gulf Service Station on Ash Street, and finished his working career retiring with Service Corp. after 15 years.

In his retirement, he enjoyed lawn maintenance, and was also a dedicated and loved employee with Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

He will be remembered as a loyal and dedicated member of the Goldsboro community.

A service to celebrate the life of Dexton will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with pastor Berry House officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Family members will greet friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Dexton is survived by his wife, Shelby Casion Mozingo; his sons, Drue Mozingo and wife, Sonya, Stan Mozingo and Angie Mozingo; his grandchildren, Kayla Pounds and husband, Jonathan, Seth Mozingo and Tanner Mozingo: and a great-grandchild, Ava Gray Pounds.

Willie Lewis George III, 62, son of Joyce Stainback George and the late Willie Lewis George II, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019.

Lewis worked for OPW Retail Fueling in Smithfield, and was a longtime employee of Caterpillar before that.

In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his lifetime partner of 20 years, Lisa Lovering; son, Brian George and wife, Brittany, of Fremont; daughter, Deanna George Price and husband, Adam, of Freemont; stepson, Michael Grady and wife, Amanda, of Dudley; stepdaughter, Amber England and husband, Billy of Dunn; brothers, David George and wife, Susan, of Raleigh and Jerry George and wife, Traci, of Zebulon; sisters, Kaye Samford of Raleigh and Joy Crenshaw of Willow Springs; grandchildren, Blainey George, Allison Price, Elayna George, Hallie George and Eleanor England; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Lewis loved his family, and enjoyed traveling, playing blues harmonica and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

He was a devoted father, and would melt when he was around his five beautiful granddaughters.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends prior to the service from 2:30 to 3:30.
