Marie Rose Phillips, 96, passed away Monday at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Goldsboro Oct. 18, 1922, to the late Benjamin Herman Rose and Ola Dare Sasser Rose.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Lebert Phillips, and son, Herman Ray Phillips.

Marie worked at R.G. Barry for 22 years, and volunteered at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 23 years.

Woodmen of the World honored Marie with the Good Neighbor Citation Award.

Marie was a dedicated lifetime member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Donna Phillips Reel of Raleigh; son, James Ronnie Phillips and wife, Debbie, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Natalie Hare Francis and husband, Mike, Katina Phillips Davis and husband, Mike, Chris Phillips and wife, Tabitha, and Nathan Phillips and wife, Jennifer; and six great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Faye Phillips, and sister, Elma Rose Snipes.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at Marie’s home.

A service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Marie’s memory to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 3859 U.S. 70, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Tamika Y. Davis-Wilder, 42, formerly of Goldsboro, departed this life Dec. 10, 2018, in Cartersville, Ga.

Her life will be celebrated in a memorial service held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Original Tabernacle of Prayer at 1005 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C.

She was born Feb. 15, 1976, in Wayne County, N.C., to the late Rufus Earl and the late Sadie Doris Nobles Davis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cathy Davis, and her precious son, Khitan DeVine II.

She is survived by a son, Launcelot Wilder “L.J.” of Goldsboro; two brothers, Rufus (Loretta) Davis and Anthony (Lori) Davis of Georgia; one uncle, Horace Nobles of Mount Olive; godsister, Latoya Shine of Seven Springs; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Betty Sue Hix Grady, 77, Kinston, N.C., slipped the bonds of earth Feb. 9, 2019.

She was predeceased by her parents, John Alfred and Sue Cox Hix of Rocky Mount, Va.

Betty is survived by three sons, Kenneth Gerald Wade Jr. (Paige Crawford), John Thomas Wade and Richard Lee Wade; three stepchildren, Jean, Larry and Alex; and five grandchildren, McKenzie, Kyle, Zachary, Chase and Jacob.

She will be dearly missed by her sister, Frances Hix Padden (Ernie); nephew, Jace; niece, Whitney; and beloved cousins, Mary Elizabeth Hix-Baldwin and Ann Hix McMullen.

Betty was lovingly cared for by her son, John, during her long illness.

Betty was a kind, gentle and caring person.

During her life, she enjoyed stamp collecting, antiquing and jigsaw puzzles.

During her working years, Betty was an accountant and tax preparer.

She was an early environmentalist, a registered birdwatcher and a member of the Audubon Society.

Betty was a passionate music lover, and enjoyed her favorite bands in many venues across the country, collecting numerous friends along the way.

All who knew Betty will miss her unique wit and wisdom.

Henry Dallas Sutton, 67, Mount Olive resident, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Per his request, no services are to be held.

However, friends and family are being received at the home of his mother.

Henry, a carpenter, plumber, electrician, painter, even a parking lot painter and striper — just a jack-of-all-trades handyman — is survived by his mother, Mary Dallas Cottle Sutton of Mount Olive; a son, Dallas Gray Sutton and wife, Keri, of China Grove; a daughter, Holly Sutton Ballance and husband, Josh, of LaGrange; a brother, Harold Lloyd Sutton Jr. and wife, Susie, of Bluffton, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Ava and Presleigh Sutton.

His father, Harold Lloyd Sutton Sr., preceded him in death.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Kinston. Interment will be in Pinewood Memorial Park, Greenville.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. The family will assemble at home for the funeral cortege.
