Margaret F. Bradshaw

Margaret Ferrell Bradshaw, Mount Olive resident, passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24, at Wayne Hospital after having enjoyed a long, happy and healthy life for 94 years.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Dr. Dennis Atwood will preside. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mrs. Bradshaw is survived by nephews, Tom Ferrell and wife, Milly, and Alex Ferrell and wife, Anna, and their sons, all of Mount Olive; a great-nephew, Danny Street, and family of Nahunta; and several other nieces and nephews from the Bradshaw family. Also surviving is a special friend for over 70 years, Mary Dallas Sutton, of Mount Olive, and several cousins, including a special cousin, Edna Smith House, of Mount Olive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Marvin Bradshaw; parents, Eugene Thomas Ferrell Sr. and Fonnie Smith Ferrell; and her brother and sister-in-law, E. T. “Tommie” Ferrell Jr. and Goldie Ferrell.

After her marriage to Mr. Bradshaw, they lived in Wilmington for a while, but ultimately made Durham their home during their careers, he a denture craftsman, and she, an executive secretary at Duke University School of Law.

After they retired, they relocated to Roxboro for a short time, returning to her hometown of Mount Olive to enjoy the remainder of their years. They were members of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive.

Ronald Edward Close

Dec. 24, 1938-Feb. 23, 2019

Ronald Edward Close, 80, gently slipped into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at Johnston UNC Health Care in Smithfield surrounded by his wife and granddaughter.

Ron was born on Dec. 24, 1938, in Cambridge City, Indiana, and was the son of the late Perry Edward Close and Maxine Hutchinson Close. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. Ron retired as a manufacturing tech with Caterpillar and had also managed several factories for Dana Corporation.

Ron led a life of dedication to his family and friends. He deeply loved and took great pride in his wife, children, grandchildren and his dog, Emmi-Lou. Ron always found joy in simple pleasures with family and friends. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, Duke and the University of Indiana basketball and watching sunsets at the beach with his wife.

Ron exemplified God’s love by serving others. He attended Faith Free Will Baptist Church. Ron will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Friends and loved ones will be received by the family on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church followed by a service to celebrate Ron’s life at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Walter Sloan and son-in-law, the Rev. Terry Smith, officiating.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Donna Close; daughters, Ann Close of Cary, Carole Daley and husband, Patrick, of Cary, Tammy Smith and husband, Terry, of Greensboro, and Dana Craddock and husband, Page, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Mosser and husband, Dave, Patrick Daley Jr., Carter Daley, TJ Smith, Taylor Smith, Caeleb Smith and Krista Smith; and sisters, Donna Jean Duff and husband, Calvin, of New Castle, Ind., and Barbara Widau and husband, Paul, of Centerville, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ron’s memory to Missions at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 1200 W. Grantham St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Joan B. Rawlings, 71, of Saratoga, died Thursday at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Rocky Mount.
