Charles Allen Spurgeon, Mount Olive resident, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, at Wayne Hospital. He was 70.

His life will be remembered in a service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation afterward. Officiating will be the Rev. Lamarr Jackson.

Family and friends are also being received at the home of Milford and Patty Turner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Charles was a retired painter, having been employed by the state of North Carolina at O’Berry Center and Cherry Hospital.

He is survived by a sister, Patty S. Turner and husband, Milford; two brothers, Dale Spurgeon and wife, Betsy, and George “Bill” Spurgeon all of Mount Olive; a special niece, Katelynn Morgan; other nieces and nephews, Linda Turner and children, D.J. Howery and Olivia Turner, April T. Page and son, Davis Page, Christie S. Stevens and husband, D.J., Michael Spurgeon, his wife, Lori, and children, Chad and Chelsie; Suzanne Vernon and husband, Chris, and children, Zachary Parker and Carleigh Parker and Jay Spurgeon and wife, Patricia, and children, Benjie, Katherine, Nicholas and Chris; and two stepsons, Floyd Reardon and Bennie Reardon and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mignonette O’Berry Spurgeon; his parents, Dale Frances Spurgeon and Ann Sullivan Spurgeon Williams; stepfather, Joe Williams; sister, Waneta “Nita” Turner; and a special niece, Brittany Morgan.

Goodman Darden Whichard, 90, died Monday at Smithfield Manor.

He was born in Pitt County, N.C., to the late William Fernando and Annie Tetterton Whichard, and was married to the late Fanettie Whichard.

An avid farmer, he loved to go hunting and fishing.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Mr. Whichard is survived by his children, Gerald Whichard of Pikeville, Gary and Tina Whichard of Pikeville, Gena and Ronnie Radford of Whiteville and Georgette Evans of Mechanicsville, Va.; a sister, Doris Worthington of Greenville; and seven grandchildren, Devon Summerlin, Destiny Evans, Landen Evans, Callie Evans, Tyler Evans, Austin Evans and Mason Evans.

Mariann Strand, 74, Goldsboro, died Sunday at Eagles Pointe Assisted Living.

She was born Oct. 29, 1944, to Harold and Maebelle Stroud in Jamestown, N.Y.

Bonnye Kay Mooney Dean, 72, Goldsboro, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro with her loving husband by her side.

Bonnye was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Sac City, Iowa, to the late Harold and Helen Mooney.

She was retired as a medical records tech working for several area hospitals and doctor offices.

Bonnye had also worked with Walmart in Jefferson City, Mo., and in Goldsboro.

Bonnye had a big heart for animals, and loved all animals she came in contact with.

Bonnye enjoyed time spent with family and friends at the beach and enjoying the beautiful scenery created.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.

Bonnye is survived by her husband of 49 years, Tom Dean; daughter, Jennifer Frossard and husband, Andy, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Savannah Frossard, Sienna Frossard and Lincoln Frossard; and her brothers Todd Mooney of St. Louis and Larry Mooney of Sac City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made in honor of Bonnie to the SPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, D.C., 20090.

James E. Holloman, 82, died Monday at Universal Heathcare, Fuquay-Varina.

He was born June 7, 1936, in Duplin County to the late Perry and Estelle Thompson Holloman. He was married to the late Janelle King Holloman.
