Virginia B. Rhodes

June 26, 1937-Jan. 9, 2019

Mrs. Virginia Carroll Barrow Rhodes, 81, Goldsboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Born June 26, 1937, she was the daughter of Alonza and Velma Worthington Barrow.

A consummate homemaker, Virginia was a dedicated wife, mother and especially grandmother.

While her first love and devotion were to her family, closely following were fishing, playing bingo and University of North Carolina Tar Heel basketball.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Donald Rhodes, and several siblings.

Surviving are her children, Keith Daniel Rhodes and wife, Christy, of Cary and Eddie Rhodes and wife, Mary Alice, of Winterville; sisters, Mary Alice Harring of Florida and Pauline Skorik of Wisconsin; brothers, Bobby Barrow and Ronnie Barrow both of Snow Hill and Joseph Barrow of Greenville; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Brooks Rhodes, Laura Rhodes, Megan Rhodes and Erin Rhodes; and her special friends, Derald Smith and June Waller of Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Grifton.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Anthony Eugene Tucker, 33, 906 Doctors Drive, Apt 2F, Kinston, died Jan. 4.

Funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Math and Esther Church, Kinston. Burial will be in Tucker Family Cemetery.

John Wright Lawhorn, 84, 550 Bell Town Road, Dover, died Jan. 2 at home.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Memorial Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Mills Memorial Gardens.

He was married to Betty Bell Lawhorn.

He is survived by his children.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 tonight, with the family present. The family will assemble at home for the funeral cortege.


Margaret L. Ham Barnes

Margaret Lillian Ham Barnes, 77, Bailey, died Wednesday at Wilson Medical Center.

Memorial service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Independent Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bailey, with the Rev. Phillip Hawley officiating.

She was born in Johnston County June 26, 1941, to the late James Willie and Mary Ellen Callihan Ham. She was married to Danny Ray Barnes.

She is survived by a daughter and four sons.

Visitation will follow the service at the church.

Andrew Elliott

Died Jan. 3, 2019

Andrew “Ander” Elliott, 94, formerly of Mount Olive, died Jan. 3 at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Darby, Pa.

Funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Northeast Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Elliott Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Carver Cemetery.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Adam and Lizzie Elliott.

Three children survive.

Visitation will be an hour prior to funeral service at the church.

She was born in Wayne County Oct. 15, 1953, to the late Edgar and Desiree Dail Lipscomb. She was married to Ronald Parrish.

She is survived by a daughter.

Deacon Horace Craig Tomlinson, 58, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.

Funeral will be Saturday 1 p.m. at New Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Clayton, with the Rev. Alvin D. Thompson Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Clayton.

He was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Lenoir County to the late Edwin and Ollie Benton Dawson.
