Etta Beatrice Ward Bizzell, lovingly known to her family and friends as “Etta Bea,” was born June 1, 1929, to the late Lee Pope and Lena Ward in Greene County, N.C. She departed this earthly life Jan. 19, 2019, surrounded by family at home in Tallahassee, Fla.

Etta Bea began her love of Christ at an early age. She was a member of Bible Way Holiness Church, Goldsboro, N.C., where she headed the usher board and became a church mother.

After moving to Tallahassee in 2004, she joined New Mount Zion AME Church.

Etta Bea was married to the late Harry Bizzell.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Harriet Bizzell Meek.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her daughters, Ruth Bizzell Dillard (Jesse) and Joyce Denise Bizzell Allen; five granddaughters, Tomesha Henry Kornegay (Alejandro) of Goldsboro, N.C., Ashlee Allen Harris (Devin), Jamie Meek, Jendayi Dillard of Austin, Texas, and Jazzmon Allen Williams (Josai) of Fayetteville, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Amara Denise Harris; two brothers, Eddie Lee Ward of LaGrange, N.C., and Henry Ward (Kathy) of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; and two sisters, Ruth Stevens of Galloway, N.J., and Pearl Lena Dixon (Roy) of New Bern, N.C.

She had a great circle of other family members, including nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly.

A private gathering of the immediate family will be held in Tallahassee.

A memorial service and burial will be held in Goldsboro, N.C., at a later date.

Randolph “Monk” Lassiter, 80, Princeton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Wayne UNC Health Care.

Monk was born in Wayne County Oct. 11, 1938, one of 10 children, to the late Nathan and Effie Mae Pearce Lassiter.

He owned and operated Randolph Logging Co. for many years before his retirement.

Monk had a great love for NASCAR racing, and also enjoyed the opportunity to make good wine, as he was known by many for Monk’s Vineyard.

He proudly served his community on Oakland Fire Department.

Monk tirelessly devoted himself to his wife of 54 years – she was his world and the love of his life. Monk and Shirley loved their family and the time they spent with their children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Monk’s life at 5 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Kelly Buffalo officiating.

The family will also greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Lassiter Family Cemetery on Lassiter Road, Princeton.

Monk is survived by his wife, Shirley B. Lassiter; son, Jeffrey Lynn Lassiter and wife, Debbie; daughter, Donna Gail Lassiter; grandchildren, Brandon Lee Lassiter and wife, Sara, and Christopher James Lane; brother, John Thomas Lassiter; sister, Marjorie L. Pipkin; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much, including his special nephew, Larry Lassiter and wife, Gloria.

He is also survived by special friends, John and Faye Lane, and his K-9 friend and companion, Fancy.

Dennis Wade

It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis Ray Wade announces his passing Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at the age of 73.

He was born March 26, 1945.

Dennis retired from the city of Goldsboro after 30 years of service.

Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Melinda Wade, of 22 years.

He is also survived by his children, Suellen (Tommy), Denise (Brad), Melissa, Chad (Laura), Amanda (Ramel), Lee (Jason) and Dana (Kelvin); 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Brother, Ricky (Darlene), and sisters, Lorraine (Bill) and Tammy.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Blanche Wade; his sisters, Nan Wade Hatmaker and Gloria Wade; and niece, Blair Long.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bessie Bedford Smith, 87, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Bessie was born in Johnston County, N.C., Nov. 10, 1931, to the late Johnnie Bedford and Lommie Woodard Bedford. She was married to the late Andrew Earl Smith.

A celebration of Bessie’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Gateway Church in Pikeville.

Bessie is survived by her daughters, Phyllis S. Candler (Bardo) of Goldsboro, LaRue S. Taylor (Johnny) of Pikeville and Robin S. Sutton (Curtis) of LaGrange; sisters, Lucille Ballance, Shirley Johnson and Brenda Merritt; brothers, James Bedford and Gerald Bedford; grandchildren, Stacy Candler (Lisa), Dawn Taylor, Dillon Fleming and DeAnna Fleming; and great-grandchildren, Jason West, Avery Vernatt, Rylee Fleming and Ella James Fleming.

In addition to her husband and parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her son, Danny Smith; sister, Ruby Collier; and brother, J.T. Bedford.

Obadiah Robinson, 81, 1349 Parkstown Road, LaGrange, died Tuesday at Vidant Hospice Center, Greenville.

He was born in Lenoir County to the late Clarence and Laurena Rowe Robinson.
