Norma Louise Corbett Weaver, 89, died Sunday at her residence. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Mark Corbett and Clara Smith Corbett, and wife of the late George W. Weaver Jr. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Alton L. Corbett, and sisters, Esther M. Stewart and Edna L. DuBois. Norma was a longtime member of Hood Swamp Friends Meeting.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, at noon in the Shumate Memorial Chapel with Pastor Lee Lane officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Weaver is survived by her sons, Randy M. Weaver and Glenn C. (Sharon) Weaver; her daughter, Cindy L. (Jim) Whitley; brothers, Gene H. Corbett, Gordon R. Corbett and Gary C. Corbett; sisters, Janet M. Price and Linda C. Edwards; grandchildren, Brandon Glenn (Sara) Weaver and Macie L. Mooring; great-grandchildren, Jaylen Mooring and Mikah Mooring; stepgrandchildren, James Whitley and Michelle Stitt; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Milford Dennis Wilson, 73, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, in Durham.

Dennis was born in Wayne County on Feb. 1, 1945, to the late Marion Daniels “Scrooge” Wilson and Eleanor Parks Wilson. For many years, Dennis and his brother, Regis, owned and operated Wilson Grading Company in Goldsboro. His first and favorite occupation, however, was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop one of his tractors on the family farm. In addition to the crops they raised on the farm, he also grew turkeys for Goldsboro Milling Company.

Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army and served his community with the Elroy Volunteer Fire Department. Dennis will always be remembered for his love of a good practical joke, whether done to him or by him, as well as his true love of family, friends, life and work.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Dennis’ life at 7 p.m. in the chapel with Mike Parks officiating. The family will also greet friends Wednesday following the service at the funeral home and other times at his home. Interment will be on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Family Cemetery.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Brenda Best Wilson; daughters, Hope Casey and husband, Chris, and Crystal Scrufari and husband, Michael; and grandchildren, Gracie Casey, Adrienne Casey and Troy Casey. He is also survived by his brothers, Regis Wilson, Joe Wilson (Wanda) and John Wilson (Wanda); sisters, Linda Smith (Sammy), Ruth Smith (Kent), Mary Grady (Jarvis) and Esther Wilson; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lamont Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.

Gordon E. Thornton

SEVEN SPRINGS — Gordon Edward Thornton, 66, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019. The seventh of nine children, Gordon was born Feb. 17, 1952, in Wayne County to the late Harvey Preston Thornton and Bessie Jordan Thornton.

Gordon was a longtime employee of Goldsboro Starter and Alternator. With over 20 years of service to the company, Gordon was dedicated and loved his work. He was a highly skilled mechanic knowing the ins and outs of every car that came through the shop.

When he wasn’t working, Gordon could often be found piddling in his shop at home. He was a gifted craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands. He found great pleasure in creating beautiful pieces from wood.

Never one to take himself too serious, Gordon was a jokester and loved to cut up. His sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. He truly lived to see others smile.

The next time you hear some good beach music or are enjoying ice cream, think of Gordon and smile.

A memorial service to celebrate Gordon’s life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jenny Grady Thornton; two children, Alex Price and wife, Lori, and Alicia Martin and husband, Jamie; three grandchildren, Adam Price, Noah Price and Abby Martin; five siblings, Shelton Thornton, Rayvon Thornton, Preston Thornton Jr., Frances Capps and Harold Thornton; several special nieces and nephews; and a number of close friends Gordon thought of as brothers. In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by three siblings, Violet Thornton, Judy Coker and Gary Thornton.

Patricia A. Marguglio, 74, died Dec. 25 at home.

Funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Church.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on April 30, 1944, to the late Marcella and Leonard A. Raab Sr. She was married to John Marguglio.

She is survived by two children.

She was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Wilson County to the late Charles and Anna Hart Rodgers. She was married to Bernice A. Bradshaw.
