Geraldine Cox Atkinson

Jan. 15, 1928-Jan. 18, 2019

Geraldine Cox Atkinson, 91, was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Wayne County to the late Johnny and Mary Brewington Cox. She departed this life on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at noon at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Goldsboro, N.C. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park, Dudley, N.C. The church will open at 11 a.m. for a viewing with the service beginning at noon.

Geraldine, affectionately known as “Gedi,” graduated from Central High School in 1948. At an early age, she joined Atkinson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, home mission and usher board. She was employed at J.P. Taylor Tobacco Factory for 24 years and retired from United Maintenance at A.P. Parts after 10 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Atkinson; three sons, William Atkinson, James Atkinson and Donald Atkinson; one sister, Eunice Durham; and one brother, Major Cox.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories two daughters, Evelyn Starkie and Debora Sinclair, both of Goldsboro; one son, Byron (Evangeline) Atkinson, of Raleigh; one sister, Essie Cox, of Goldsboro; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; in-laws Mary Atkinson Edwards (Herman), Sarah Atkinson Frazier (David), Geraldine Summers Atkinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services are entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations.

Helen Smith Harrison, 71, died Sunday.

Funeral will be today at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 23, 1947, in Boone to the late William Aiken and Virginia Barnhardt Smith. She was married to Kendrick J. Harrison Jr.

Visitation will be today following the funeral. Arrangements are by Rouse Funeral Home.

Conell Lanier

Conell Lanier, 83, Rose Hill, died Thursday at Vidant Duplin Hospital, Kenansville.

Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cameron Hankins officiating. Burial will at Carr Family Cemetery.

She is survived by eight children.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home.
