Charles Ray Jones, 76, life-long resident of Mount Olive, passed away peacefully late Sunday afternoon, July 7, at his home.

His family will be receiving friends at the residence, and they will also receive at Tyndall Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 10, beginning at 1 p.m. with graveside rites to follow at 2:30 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.

Mr. Jones was a retired volunteer with Mount Olive Fire Department. Perhaps he will be best remembered for his "always-on-call availabilty" with Jenkins Gas and Oil Company and Suburban Gas Company, which in later years assumed Jenkins. As manager of its Mount Olive location, he served the people well with his 40 years of faithful service. He was a member of Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Jones Allen, of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Kristen Sink and husband, Adam, of Hampstead, and Tyler Allen, of Mount Olive; a sister, Lena Jones Price, of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Linda Jones, of Kinston, and Joyce B. Jones, of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving him is his faithful canine companion, Reese.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Duffy and Elgie Jernigan Jones, and brothers, Bobby Jones, Elvin "Puddin" Jones and William D. "Bill" Jones and wife, Billie Jean Jones.

Edna Marlene Whaley Rhodes Lee, 89, of Kinston, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, Sampson “Jiggs” and Margaret “Maggie” Whaley, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Pete” Rhodes; brothers, Dalton, Prentice and Harold Whaley; and second husband, Mac Lewis Lee.

She is survived by her sons, Terry Rhodes, of Kinston, and Dalton Ross Rhodes, of Deep Run; grandchildren, Amy Rhodes Rudd, of Morehead City, Angela Rhodes Bologna, of Port Richey, Fla., and Ross William Rhodes, of Deep Run; and five great-grandchildren.

Edna, a long time resident of Kinston, retired from Belk after many years of service. A humble woman of deep faith, she attended Westside FBW Church. She was a gifted cook, loved old westerns and cherished her friends and loved her family beyond measure.

Family will be receiving friends Wednesday, July 10, 2019, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

There are no words to express our gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the excellent care Edna received.

Mrs. Carrie Gray Grant, 86, passed away Sunday evening, July 7, 2019, at Sutton’s Retirement Center in Goldsboro.

Born May 22, 1933, she was the daughter of Claudie and Jenny Gray. Mrs. Grant was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife, and in her later years worked with the Family Fun Center in Goldsboro. She was a member of Free Gospel PFWB Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Grant, on May 6, 2016.

Her surviving family includes her son, Elwood “Woody” Grant and wife, Beverly, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Dustin Christensen-Grant and spouse, Tad Christensen-Grant, and Codee Grant Erickson and husband, Jordan, all who reside in Utah; and a stepgrandson, Stephen Underwood, of Goldsboro.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Tingen officiating.

Mrs. Grant will lie-in-state at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service on Wednesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service for a family and friends viewing.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Sutton’s Retirement Center for the loving care shown to Mrs. Grant during her stay there.

Clarence Douglas Parker, 83, 12 Occidental Court, Clayton, died Saturday at home.

He was born July 21, 1935, in Keyser, West Virginia, to Frank Abner and Lottie Reynolds, and is survived by his children.

A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. in the James. T. Haskins Memorial Chapel of Haskins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date in the Meadowridge Cemetery in Elkridge, Md.

Arrangements are by the Haskins Funeral Home.

Billy Ray Grice, 76, of Kenly, died Saturday at Wayne UNC Health Care.

Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Howell Funeral Home and Crematory chapel. Burial will be in Fellowship Methodist Church Cemetery, Princeton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Johnston County to the late Perry A. and Mary Allie Parnell Grice. He was married to Lorene Hollowell Grice.

He is survived by two daughters.

Visitation is Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

James Kornegay, of New York, died July 2 at Calvary Nursing Home.

Funeral will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at St. Albans Congregational Church, St. Albans, N.Y.

He was born in July 15, 1944, in Wayne County to the late Floyd and Sarah Kornegay.

He is survived by two children.

Patsy Bridgers Dixon, 88, of Princeton, died Sunday at the SECU Hospice House, Smithfield.

Funeral will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Princeton Cemetery.

She was born July 29, 1930, in Wayne County to the late Albert Austin and Juanita Talton Bridgers. She was married to Oscar Martin Dixon.

She is survived by three children.
