Carl Bradley Hawkins Sr., 62, Goldsboro, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Carl was born in Washington, D.C., Sept. 9, 1956, to Dora Ann Sydnor Hawkins of Owings, Md., and the late Roy Hawkins.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired after 22 years of service with the rank of master sergeant.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 7, 2019, from 8 to 9 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service of remembrance at 9 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2019, in Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro with full military honors.

In addition to his mother, Carl is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Cecile Bailey Hawkins; daughter, Rebecca Ann VanCise and husband, Brandon, of Fort Mill, S.C.; son, Carl Bradley Hawkins Jr. of Rock Hill, S.C.; sister, Debbie Garner of Hughesville, Md.; brother, Bobby Hawkins of Owings, Md.; and grandchildren, Braxton VanCise, Brinlee VanCise, Becca VanCise and Ayden Hawkins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Hawkins Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Kathleen Mashburn “Kam” Gay, 70, Goldsboro, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Born in Wake County July 26, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Ottis Leon Mashburn and Eleanor Place Mashburn.

A time of visitation and remembrance will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Kam is survived by her daughter, Michele Bogue and husband, Jeff; stepsons, Brien Grey and wife, Kay, and Mike Grey; sister, Margaret Mashburn Rowland; and grandchildren, Brendan Rouse, Matthew Bogue and Christopher Grey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Walter “Bob” Gay, and brothers, Dennis Mashburn and Guy Mashburn.

Retired United States Air Force Capt. Ross J. Wilson

Died May 28, 2019

Retired United States Air Force Capt. Ross J. Wilson, 55, passed away at his home in Virginia following a long battle with cancer.

Ross served as a command post controller for the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, as a Minuteman III launch officer in Minot, N.D., and as chief of disaster preparedness for Air Forces Iceland.

At the time of his death, he was serving as an Army civilian employee at Fort A.P. Hill, Va.

He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Wilson; sister, Kimberly Wilson of Bowling Green, Ky.; his wife, Susan; and daughters, Madeline and Victoria.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews and many friends and co-workers.

In accordance with his wishes, there is no formal funeral service.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you take every chance to tell a loved one that you care for him or her.

Nikki Kornegay, 44, 720 Stanley Chapel Road, Mount Olive, died Saturday at home.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Jackson Tabernacle.

She was born July 13, 1974, in Wayne County to Edward and Mildred Slocumb Kornegay.

She is survived by three children.

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Haskins Funeral Home and Cremations. The family will assemble at home for the funeral procession.

Elma James Jones, 84, 1731 E. Holly St., died Friday at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Alpha and Omega Christian Center. Burial will be at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Alpha and Omega. The family will receive friends at home, where it will assemble for the funeral procession.

Frank Simmons Jordan, 96, died Friday at home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Family of Faith Community Church, with pastor John Earnest officiating.

He was born in Atlanta, Ga., Jan. 10, 1923, to the late Frank S. Jordan and Mary Ruth Goss Jordan. He was married to Toni H. Jordan.

He is survived by seven children.

James William Holland, 83, Kenly, died Monday at home.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Kenly Cemetery, with the Rev. Aubrey Williamson officiating.

He was born in Wilson County Nov. 20, 1935, to the late Herman and Lizzie Brown Holland. He was married to Judith Pope Holland.

He is survived by two children.
