A homegoing celebration for Edward Maurice Stevens will be held at Contending for the Faith Church Ministries, 1006 Academy St., Wilson, N.C., June 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. The committal service will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Nash St. North, Wilson, N.C. Dr. Dameion Royal will deliver the words of comfort.

Maurice, as he was affectionately called, was born Oct. 8, 1984, in Wilson, N.C.

He was reared in Wilson and Wayne County, receiving the bulk of his formal education with the Wilson County Public School System. He was a 2003 graduate of James Baxter Hunt High School. He later received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Carlton Stevens.

Precious memories will be in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him.

Among his survivors are his daughter, the apple of his eye, Kaycie Barrow; his loving mother, Carol Stevens; his brother and sister, Carlton Jr. and Andrea; his nieces and nephews, whom he simply adored, Brittany, Christian, Carlton Jr., Mia, Will and Jade; several aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles; and many other relatives and friends, including his godbrother, whom he loved like a brother, Marquette Applewhite.

A public visitation will be held Monday, June 17, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, N.C. At other times, the family will be receiving friends at 4512 Hatcher Lane, Wilson, N.C.

Kay Braswell Stewart, 69, Smithfield, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 13, 2019, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Kay was born in Johnston County Aug. 23, 1949, to Madeline Pilkington Braswell of Smithfield and the late Dewey Roland Braswell.

For many years, Kay worked as a hairstylist in Smithfield, and later retired as a teacher’s assistant with Princeton Elementary School in Princeton after many years of service. Kay enjoyed the opportunities given to her by helping to impact the lives of so many children through the years.

Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be missed.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 17, 2019, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Kay’s life at 6 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Hephzibah Baptist Church Cemetery in Princeton.

In addition to her mother, Kay is survived by her son, Daniel Stewart and fianceé, Noemi; grandchildren, Clayton and Madi Stewart; brother, Ronald Braswell and wife, Nancy; sister, Peggy Lumsden and husband, Treve; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.

She is also survived by her dear friend and companion, Bruce Riggott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Kay’s memory to a charity of choice or please perform an act of kindness for a child with Kay in mind.

Goldie Marie Kennedy passed peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center early Saturday morning.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brian J. Keith; her sister, Clover Lancaster; her mother, Edna Lewis; her grandmother, Ella Blalock; and her very special friend, Lt. Col. Lewis C. Keith Sr.

Goldie loved fishing, spending time outside and NASCAR. She was a Jimmy Johnson fan from his first race.

She loved her pets, especially her dogs.

At her request, no formal funeral services will be held.

Goldie is survived by her son, Lewis C. Keith Jr. and wife, Dinorah, and her grandsons, Lewis C. Keith III and Joseph D. Keith.

She was born in Wilson County Aug. 10, 1966, to Sue Harrell Bass of Kenly and the late Nathan Gray Bass.

Margaret F. Armwood, 86, 105B Johnson Place, Mount Olive, died Wednesday in Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral will be noon Tuesday at Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Park.

She was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Wayne County to William and Henrietta Stevens Faison.

She is survived by seven children.

Visitation Tuesday an hour prior to the service at the church, with the family present. The family will assemble at 304 E. Pollock St., Mount Olive for the funeral procession.

Diana “Rudy” Wade Hodges Lassiter, 65, 202 James St., LaGrange, died June 2 at Vidant Medical Center from injuries sustained in an accident.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations. Burial will be at Golden Gate Memorial Gardens.

She was born May 30, 1954, in Wayne County to Glory White and Larry Wade.
