Marvin Parker Coker, 90, LaGrange, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Marvin was born in Wayne County Feb. 12, 1929, to the late Leonard and Bessie Garris Coker.

He retired as an inspector with the tobacco division of the United States Department of Agriculture after 29 years of service.

Marvin was a lover of the land and enjoyed his life as a farmer, and will be remembered by many as an avid gardener.

He was a member of Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 30, 2019, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Marvin’s life at 3 p.m. in the chapel. A private interment for the family will be held in Fairview Cemetery.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Louise Snipes Coker; nieces, Joan Wilson Hester (James), Kay Wilson Lockerby (Curtis), Pamela Wilson Bunn (Garry) and Susan Coker McCoy (Ronnie); and three stepgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Shirley Coker Wilson; brother, James Edward Coker; and stepchildren, Joan Coor Hart and Robert Glenn Coor.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 138 Beston Road, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.

Janet Odom Bordeaux, 84, Mount Olive resident, passed away Thursday night, June 27, at her home with loved ones surrounding her.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 30, at 4 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Dennis Atwood, with burial following in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends during the hour before the service.

Mrs. Bordeaux is survived by two daughters,Tracy Nugent of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sharon Lee Weeks of Clinton; grandchildren, Brooke Taylor Nugent, Myrenda Wheeler and Kimberly Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Marjorie Erdeen Haire of Portsmouth, Va., and Wanda Gail Smith and husband, Hiram, of Grantham; brother, Donald Harrell and wife, June; and stepbrother, Gordon Harrell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Ray Bordeaux; a son, Bobby Cottle; her parents, Leroy Odom and Kathleen Joyner Odom Harrell; and brothers, Charles Harrell, whose wife was Brenda, and Kenneth Harrell, whose wife was Faye.

Mrs. Bordeaux was a member of First Baptist Church, Mount Olive, excelled at being a homemaker and had also been employed with Burlington Industries in years gone by.

Evelyn Carolyn Hall, 67, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at noon in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, George James Hall; her daughter, Dionne Hall Townsend and husband, Rodney, of Texas; one sister, Lenell Gadson of South Carolina; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Nell Dwyer.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 1, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m., with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro and other times at the residence.

Codi Lynn Malpass, 24, Summerlin’s Crossroads area of Mount Olive, tragically lost her life in a vehicle accident Tuesday night, June 25, 2019, in Sampson County.

She was employed with Speedway in Mount Olive, and had previously worked at Subway.

Codi is survived by her son, Ayden Hernandez, and his father, Petie Hernandez, both of the home; her parents, Gary and Paula Summerlin Malpass of Mount Olive; her grandfather, Ellis Malpass of Mount Olive; a sister, Kayla Denning of Mount Olive; and her great-grandmother, Eula Malpass of Mount Olive.

Codi’s life will be remembered in a service to be Sunday, June 30, at 3 p.m. at Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Mickey Whitfield.

Tyndall Funeral Home has assisted the family.

She was born March 21, 1967, to Mary Tempie Hines Pilkington and the late James Elton Pilkington. She was married to Avery Gray Peedin.
