Rose B. Kinzel

Rose Barnett Kinzel, 91, died early Tuesday morning, June 18, at her home in Dudley.
She was born to the late William Henry and Mary Mitchell Barnett in Duplin County.
She was a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1944.
She is survived by her daughters, Annette Kinzel and husband, Richard, and Catherine Scalzo and husband, Joseph; a son, Fredrick Kinzel and wife, Sandra; her grandchildren, Andrew and wife, Robin, and Allison Scalzo; a great-grandchild, Liam Scalzo; two sisters, Elizabeth Hall and Roman Thomas; a brother, John “Jay” Barnett; and several nieces and nephews.
After marrying in Raleigh, she moved to Oakland, Calif., and then in 1951, to Norfolk, Va., where she and her family were active members of Oakdale Presbyterian Church, where served as elder and deacon.
While raising her children, she was an active member of the PTA.
For several years, she served as secretary at Kempsville Presbyterian Church under the leadership of the Rev. David Anderson.
After retiring in 1978, Ed and Rose moved to Dudley, N.C.
In her home state, Rose enjoyed the fellowship of the members of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church and Dudley Christian Church.
As the great helper she was, Rose worked alongside her husband, Ed, in the building of their home, and was able to maintain that home and her lovely garden for more than 40 years.
Rose was an active member and served as president of Mount Olive Home Extension Club, where she was surrounded by several creative women of Wayne County.
For many years, she substituted teaching and tutored in Wayne County Public Schools, and was a longtime member of the VFW.
The last several years of her life, Rose loved playing on the Parks and Recreation sports team in Mount Olive, particularly the Bean Bag Baseball team.
In addition to her husband, Rose was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Hazel Rackley and Lois Price; and a brother, Ardell Barnett.
A memorial service honoring Rose’s life will be held at a later date.

Silas Henry Perkins

Silas Henry Perkins, 89, died Monday at his residence.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Silas Leon Perkins and the late Lula Jackson Perkins, husband of the late Sara Louise Evans Perkins and father of the late Brian Carson “Corky” Perkins.
A private service will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his sons, Henry Perkins and wife, Carol, Marc Kiewert and wife, Donna, and Ken Nunn and wife, Lucy; daughter, Barbara Thornton and husband, Bob; and a grandson, Brian Perkins.

Willie A. Blount, 82, 210 N. Johnson St., Mount Olive, died Tuesday at Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice facility.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Payne Temple AME Zion Church.
He was born July 10, 1936, in Northampton County to James and Merdis High Blount. He was married to Janet Blount.
He is survived by three children.
Visitation will be an hour prior to service. The family will receive friends at the home, where it will assemble for the funeral.

Mildred Holmes Jones, 94, 2905 Ginger Road, Kinston, died Tuesday at home.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Memorial Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
She is survived by a daughter.
Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.

Ron Lamonte Parks, 44, 3036 N.C. 903 North, LaGrange, died Monday at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Kimberly Rose Shutt, 49, Princeton, died Tuesday at SECU Hospice House, Smithfield.
Funeral will be 6 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations, with the Rev. Jack Booth and the Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Progressive Church Cemetery.
She was born April 29, 1970, to Donnie Hugh and Vicky Marie Worley Medlin. She was married to William “Bill” Arthur Shutt Jr.
She is survived by a son.

He was born Sept. 22, 1965, in Mexico.
