Sherby Tucker Hines, 73, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Sherby was born in Wayne County May 15, 1946, to the late Joe Jesse Tucker and Addie Mae Gooding Tucker.

For 25 years, Sherby worked with Gambella Industries in Fremont, and later retired from Wayne County Public Schools.

She attended St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro and Island Christian Fellowship in Hertford.

Sherby enjoyed sewing and looking for a good find at a yard sale.

Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be missed.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Sherby’s life at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Pikeville Cemetery.

Sherby is survived by her husband of 38 years, Linwood E. Hines; son, Wayne S. Benton and wife, Cyndy, of Snow Hill; daughter, Vicky Benton Lancaster and husband, Eric, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ali Lancaster Legg and husband, Jordan, Morgan Lancaster and wife, Macy, Kristen Hines, McKayla Benton, Dylan Benton and Starr Benton; and great-grandchildren, Caiden Waddell and Tucker Lancaster.

She is also survived by her sisters, Eloise Tucker of Pikeville, Judy Harper of Mount Olive and Jenny Pope of Tennessee, and brother, Joe Jesse Tucker Jr. of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Hines; two sisters; and two brothers.

James Oliver Gamble Jr., 77, Fremont, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Saturday, June 15, 2019, 3 p.m. at Fremont United Methodist Church, with a visitation meal to follow in the fellowship hall.

Jimmy was born Nov. 27, 1941, to the late James “JO” Gamble and Jennie Bostic Gamble in Greeleyville, S.C.

While attending North Carolina State University, he met and soon married Emily Duncan.

Jimmy was blessed to be able to combine his two passions – farming and business — after moving to Fremont and working as a fertilizer salesman. He later purchased and operated Wayne Crop Service.

His love for community service in Fremont was demonstrated by his involvement in Fremont Rotary Club, of which he was president, Fremont United Methodist Church and chairman the board of BB&T in Fremont.

Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and is survived by his wife Emily; son, James Gamble III (Renee); three grandsons, James “Jay” Gamble IV (fianceé, Alexandria Ownbey), Andrew Gamble and Bryan Gamble; and many special nephews, nieces, extended family members and friends.

Clarence McCarter, 72, 358 Hare Road, Goldsboro, N.C., died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

He was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Duplin County to James K. and Margaret Hargrove McCarter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Alpha and Omega Christian Center. His mortal frame will be laid to rest with full military honors in Wayne Memorial Park.

He leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his wife, Brenda Packer McCarter; his children, Darryl W. McCarter and Clarence Reco McCarter both of Goldsboro, Kimberly Horner of the home and Sherette Dunn (Raymond) of LaGrange, N.C.; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Visitation Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Haskins Funeral Home, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence, where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.

Stuart Allen Harris passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, N.C.

Stuart was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Harris Jr., Earnest Ashley Barsh and Bessie Dail Boyette Barsh; uncles, William Ashley Barsh and Brian Harris; and aunt, Rhonda Harris.

Stuart is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Miller Harris; twin sons, Miller and Miles Harris; parents, Richard and Lisa Harris and Scott and Mamie Barsh Riggs; grandmother, Patricia Harris; aunt, Emily Barsh; stepsisters, Taylor Ornelas and Debra Riggs; stepbrothers, Jordan Riggs, Scotty Riggs and Spencer Riggs; nephew, Luke Harris; and father- and mother-in-law, Anthony and Karolyn Miller.

Stuart was a longtime employee of State Employees Credit Union.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 6 p.m. at East Duplin Memorial Gardens in Beulaville, N.C.

Visitation will immediately follow the graveside service.

Sadie Mae Daniels-Height

Sadie Mae Daniels-Height, Zebulon, N.C., formerly of Goldsboro, N.C., died at her home Tuesday, June 11, following a brief but debilitating illness.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rotary Woman's Club building, 405 W. Sycamore St., Zebulon, N.C., with the Rev. Fabian Radway of Powerhouse International Church officiating.

Sadie was born Dec. 23, 1940, to the late Rev. Frank L. Daniels Sr. and Jannie Lee Daniels of Goldsboro.

She attended Dillard High School, and spent much of her early adult life in New York, where she worked as a nurse at Coney Island Hospital.

It was there where she met the love of her life,George Height of Freehold, N.J., who had been by her side for the past 40 years.

They moved to Raleigh, N.C., in the late 1970s, where she continued her nursing career at Wake Med Hospital, Central Prison Hospital and Sunnybrook Nursing Home.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to mourn her daughter, Toya Turner and her children, Felix and Faire Turner, all of Chesapeake, Va., and a half-son, Na'jee Height, and a half-daughter, Joy Bullock (Samuel) and their child, Jada, all of Freehold, N.J.

She also leaves to mourn a sister, Bessie Jones (Clarence), and a brother, Hubert Daniels (Marian) both of Goldsboro, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rossie Edwards (Billy) and Jannie Powell (Sylvester), and a brother, Frank L. Daniels Jr.

Penny Partin Cooley, 78, Fremont, died Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Penny graduated from East Carolina University, and taught elementary school for nearly 30 years, retiring from Fremont Elementary School.

She is survived by her daughter, Nel Whaley (Chris) of Fremont; sons, Bob Cooley (Meghan) of Raleigh and Burt Cooley (Cindy) of Dudley; grandchildren, Mason, Tyler and Hannah Cooley and Kristian and Cody Whaley; and a sister, Debby Davis (Pete) of Scotland Neck.

Born in Fort Sill, Okla., Nov. 17, 1957, she was the daughter of Stanley Carl Stankiewicz and the late Patricia Ann Dineen Stankiewicz. She was married to Jerry Mac Lane.
