Gilbert Lee Hare

Gilbert Lee Hare, 57, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Gilbert was born in Wayne County Sept. 4, 1961, to Tempie Creech Hare of Goldsboro and the late Paul Hare.
At the age of 18, Gilbert began volunteering with the Grantham Volunteer Fire Department, and began his career as a firefighter with Goldsboro Fire Department Nov. 8, 1989.
Gilbert was later promoted to fire engineer Aug. 17, 1994, and to fire captain April 2, 1997.
He proudly served the citizens of Goldsboro for more than 26 years.
Gilbert lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.
He also served with Belfast Volunteer Fire Department and Pikeville Volunteer Fire Department while living in those communities.
At the age of 9, Gilbert joined Falling Creek Baptist Church in Goldsboro, and later attended Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
Gilbert was most comfortable outdoors, on the water fishing or in the woods hunting.
He always enjoyed the opportunity to watch a good football game.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 14, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
A service to celebrate Gilbert’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Falling Creek Baptist Church, with pastor Anderson Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with fireman honors.
In addition to his mother, Gilbert is survived by his children, son, Paul Hare and girlfriend, Britney, and daughter, Sarah Hare; brother, Michael Hare and wife, Marilyn; and nephew, Ryan Hare.
In addition to his father, Gilbert was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Leon Hare.

Hannah Martin Teague, 93, 111 S. Church St., Eureka, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Graveside service will be held Friday, June 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Eureka Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Dale will officiate.
There will be a time of fellowship with family and friends following the service. The family will receive friends at the home of Gary and Tracey Penrod, 1440 Stan-Ray Road, Fremont, at other times.
Surviving are two nephews, William A. “Billy” Martin IV and Jonathan C. Martin and wife, Wendy, both of Eureka; a niece, Tracey Martin Penrod and husband, Gary W. Penrod, of Eureka; and two great-nieces, Haley Martin and Alyssa Penrod.
She was a native of Eureka, and was preceded in death by her parents, George Elizabeth Reaves Martin and William A. Martin II, and her siblings, William A. Martin III and Elizabeth Reaves Martin Moore.
During World War II, Hannah served in the United States Army Nurse Corps.
She retired from Cherry Hospital.
She was a member of Mount Nelson Missionary Baptist Church.

Barbara Allen Kelly Pressley, 64, Fremont, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro.
Barbara was born in Wayne County Jan. 26, 1955, to the late Robert Allen Kelly and Gracie Jones Kelly.
She had worked for many years with First Carolina Credit Union.
Barbara loved her family, and especially loved her K-9 friend, Harley.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Mark Kevin Pressley; stepson, Brandon Mark Pressley; and sisters, Virginia Diehl and Bertha Hutson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Travis Dean Kelly.

Alice Faye Sasser Hartley

Alice Hartley, 78, Princeton, transitioned to her reward Tuesday, June 11, 2019, surrounded by her family.
She was born June 18, 1940, to the late William Albert Sasser and Minnie Killette Sasser Overton. She was married for 59 years to the late Bishop David “Pete” Hartley.
Alice served alongside her husband in his ministry with Church of God of Prophecy for 51 years. She was a member of Johnston Community Church of God of Prophecy, and was well known for her love and compassion for people.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
She loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice is survived by sons, Eugene and Darlene Hartley and Jesse and Karen Hartley; daughter, Catina Hartley all of Princeton; six grandchildren, Danielle (Robbie) Wilkerson, Megan (Dustin) Gilenwater, Johnathan (Caitlin) Hartley, Lorenda Hartley, Alexis and Caitlyn Grimes all of Princeton; six great-grandchildren, Robert and David Wilkerson, Madilynn Taylor, Glory, Josiah and Sophia Hartley all of Princeton; stepgreat-granddaughter, Destiny Gillenwater; sisters, Catherine Sykes and Joyce Craft of Pikeville; and brother, Charlie Sasser (Debbie) of Woodstock, Ga.
Preceded in death by brothers, Tommy Sasser and David Sasser, and sisters, Margaret Powell, Rachel Martin and Hazel Seymour.
Service to celebrate her life will be held at Parrish Funeral Home Friday evening, June 14.
Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. with service beginning at 7 p.m., with Bishop Eugene Hartley and the Rev. Jesse Hartley officiating.
Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Princeton Cemetery.

Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late Bessie Armwood and Daniel Boone. He was married to the late Christine B. Armwood.
