David Ray Cruse, 69, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

David was born in Wayne County on June 25, 1949, to Grace Gainey Cruse of Goldsboro and the late Milton Cruse. He had worked for over 30 years as a supervisor with Borden Manufacturing Company. David was attending United In Christ Church. Those of us who knew David weep at our loss, laugh with our remembrances, and reflect deeply on how much he meant to us.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate David’s life at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas McLendon officiating. Interment will be Thursday, March 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his mother, David is survived by his daughters, Michelle Adams and husband Steve, Amy Cruse and Dava Cruse; brother, James Earl Cruse; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Everett Cruse.

Mack Daniel Lancaster Jr., 82, of Pikeville, passed away on Sunday at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill while surrounded by his family.

Mack was born in Wayne County on March 9, 1937, one of eight children, to the late Mack Daniel Lancaster Sr. and Elma Pate Lancaster. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Mack enjoyed being a farmer in the Pikeville community, and many of his happiest times were spent atop one of his tractors on the family farm. He was a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

A service to celebrate Mack’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Mack’s life at 3 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Bill Rose and the Rev. John Howard officiating. Interment will be in Pikeville Cemetery.

Mack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie Bradshaw Lancaster; son, Richard Lancaster and wife Cindy; daughter, Sharon Lancaster; grandchildren, Melinda Caroline Lancaster and husband Julian Rovito; and a great-grandchild, Macy Tyler Lancaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to UNC Chapel Hill Heart and Vascular Study, P.O. Box 309, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

Elmer Glenn Fields, 88, of Princeton, passed away at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield on Sunday, March 10, 2019.

He was born March 28, 1930, in Johnston County to the late Edward Patrick Fields and Eula Mae Edwards Fields.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Bair officiating. The burial will take place in Princeton Cemetery on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at 11 a.m., and military honors will be presented.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.

Mr. Fields was a member of Princeton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a past member of the Princeton Rescue Squad. He was the branch manager for Neese Sausage Company. Before his employment with Neese he worked with Raleigh Linen Service and then as a salesman with Local Linen Service. He served his country in the Air Force from November 1951 until November 1955 where he served in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances Hogg Fields; sons, Johnnie Fields of Wilmington, Gary Fields of LaGrange, and Jan Fields of Little River, S.C.; two grandchildren, Skyler Fields of Princeton and Logan Fields of Little River, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marguerite Catherine Schmidt MacKenzie, 85, died Monday at her residence.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William Schmidt and the late Margaret Biondi Woods and wife of the late Joseph William MacKenzie.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with chaplain Ramon Mizell officiating. Family members will greet family and friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. MacKenzie is survived by her children, Mary Ellen MacKenzie, Anne Cappauff, Thomas MacKenzie, Joseph MacKenzie and William MacKenzie; and three grandchildren, Jake, Charlie and Jennifer.

He was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Onslow County to the late Alene Hancock. He was married to the late Sarah Louise “Weezie” Hancock.

He is survived by three children.

Della Mae Stewart Slye, 96, died Saturday at Wayne UNC Health Care.

She was born in Harnett County to the late Jesse Grant and Elvia John Stewart. She was married to the late John Wray Slye.

She is survived by a daughter and a son.
