It was wintertime in the beautiful settlement of Wayne County when a baby boy was born to the late Jim and Mary Cox Kornegay Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1938. They named him John.

Deacon John “Joe” Earl Kornegay Sr., 80, 1403 Adams St., Goldsboro, N.C., answered the master’s clarion call Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of Atkinson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

He retired from O’Berry Center, and was a part-time employee of Hamilton Funeral Chapel Inc.

The celebration of his life and legacy will be held Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Association Headquarters, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Johnson officiating. His mortal frame will be laid to rest in Wayne Memorial Park on U.S. 117 South.

He leaves his loving and precious memories to his wife, Ida Howell Kornegay; his children, Merlin Kornegay Banks and John E. Kornegay Jr.; and host of other loving relatives and friends.

An inspirational wake will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Atkinson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. The family will assemble at the residence in preparation for the service.

Christine Johnson Beamon, 94, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Brookdale Country Day Road.

Christine was born in Wayne County March 24, 1924, to the late Joseph Dewey Johnson and Mary Ellen Gurley Johnson. She was married to the late Edwin Bernice Beamon.

Christine was a member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Christine is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Fairchild and husband, Tom, of Greensboro and Abigail Lancaster and husband, Michael, of Goldsboro; grandson, Cleve Fairchild and wife, Astrid Garcia; and a sister, Irene Futrell of Chocowinity.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Janie Christine Beamon and Faye Beamon Hare; brother, William D. Johnson; and sisters, Pauline Johnson and Ruby Beamon.

Janice Faye Newell Edwards, 75, Goldsboro, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Rex Healthcare Center in Raleigh.

Janice was born in Wayne County Dec. 8, 1943, to the late Will and Virginia Evans Newell.

She was a loving wife, a loving mother and a loving friend to everyone. Janice will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 22, 2019, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Janice’s life at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, in Wayne Memorial Park.

Janice is survived by her husband of 55 years, Randolph William Edwards, and her son, Jimmy Edwards and his friend, Keith, of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray Newell and Alvin Newell.

She was born in West Virginia March 13, 1928, to the late Neal and Mary Etta Meadows Hedrick. She was married to the late A.J. Howell.

She is survived by three daughters.
