J.M. Merrill

J.M. Merrill, 83, Goldsboro, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, March 15, 2019, at his home.

J.M. was born in Magnolia, Miss., April 4, 1935, to the late Rush and Mattie Davis Merrill.

He served his country in the United States Air Force.

J.M. retired from Civil Service with 33 years of service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, after which he worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 10 years. He then worked at Larson’s Transportation for a number of years.

J.M. was a faithful member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, department superintendent, Sunday school teacher and choir member.

He assisted in starting a little league team and baseball field in Princeton, where he also coached. He had a great love for officiating football, basketball, baseball and softball.

J.M. refereed several state championships, and the highlight of his career was the 1990 North South Shrine Bowl Game in Charlotte, N.C.

His hobbies were playing golf and working in the yard.

He loved his family and enjoyed singing very much.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 18, 2019, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a service to celebrate J.M.’s life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with pastor Christian Powell officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors.

J.M. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret W. Merrill; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Sandlin; grandchildren, Nikki Sandlin, Jeremy and Melonie Sandlin; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Holland and Tallon Sandlin; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Charlie Reneau; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Junior Merrill, Christine Ledford, Pauline Vanderford, Frank Merrill, Jack Merrill and Helen Robinson.

A special thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice for all the help and care it provided.

Also, a special thanks to his special niece, Angel Woodard, for all of her help she gave during this time.

Bonnie Lou Futrelle Mozingo, 72, Goldsboro, went to be with her heavenly Father Thursday morning at her home with her family members by her side.

She was an owner and operator of Carpel’s Florists until her health began to decline.

She was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Lou Elmore Futrelle and the Rev. Foy C. Futrelle.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Gordon E. Mozingo; daughter, Dawn Mozingo Gardner and her daughter, Anna-Gordon Gardner of Goldsboro; son, Chris Mozingo (April) of the home; sisters, Alice Futrelle Murphy (Randy) and Joan Futrelle King (Al) both of Pikeville; her nieces, Heather Murphy Odom (Alvin), their children Kennedy Odom and Savannah Odom, Jessica Murphy McDermott (Greg) and their children Katelynn McDermott and Joseph McDermott; and her nephews, Chase King (Heather) and Chandler King.

Funeral service will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Barry Williamson and the Rev. Gary Bailey will officiate. Committal service will be 11 a.m. Monday in the church cemetery. Dr. DeWayne Eakes will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday in the church following the funeral service.

The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to Community Home Care and Hospice for its loving care, compassion and service it has provided to Bonnie and our family over the past two years.

A special thank you to Crystal and Ashley for loving and caring for our family. We would not have survived these difficult days without your encouragement and the love you have shown Ms. Bonnie.

Robin Nicole Coley Nugent Goodson, 44-year-old resident of the Beautancus community, Mount Olive, passed away Friday night, March 15, at Vidant Medical Center.

She is survived by a son, Tyler Nugent of the home; a daughter, Elysa Goodson of the home; her mother, Becky Foss of Mount Olive; two sisters, Amber Odom of Mount Olive and Angie Coley of Greenville; a grandson, Noah Alexander Mata; and another on the way.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nealy Goodson, and her father, William Douglas Coley.

Robin’s life will be remembered in a service Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation to follow.

Family and friends are also being received at 741 Maysville School Road, Mount Olive.

Henry Rudolph Boyd, 90, of the Grantham community, Goldsboro, N.C., a retired mechanic and United States Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, passed away Thursday morning, March 14, 2019, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, March 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.

Mrs. Pennie Latta Tyndall, 85, Goldsboro, passed away Friday evening, March 15, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Pitt County, she was born Sept. 18, 1933, the daughter of Isom and Maebelle Newcombe Latta.

Following marriage to her late husband, Linwood H. “Butler” Tyndall, she made her home in the Shine community, where she resided until recent years when her health began to decline.

A devoted wife and mother, she was an avid homemaker and also a child care provider to many children through the years that she kept in her home.

Mrs. Tyndall was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she had been active in the choir, Ladies Auxiliary and the serving committee in years past.

Her surviving family includes her sons, Danny Tyndall (Carolyn) of Snow Hill, Larry K. Tyndall (Elisa) of Goldsboro and Christopher L. Tyndall (Patricia) of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Matthew Tyndall of Raleigh, Josh Tyndall (Angel) of Senoia, Ga., Chelsea T. Estrella (Dorian) of Princeton, Jenna T. Taylor (Tyler) of Snow Hill and Logan Tyndall and Marisa Tyndall both of Goldsboro; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Gail L. Pearce of Prince George, Va.; and brothers, Clifton Latta of Williamsburg, Va., and Bobby Latta (Linda) of Virginia Beach, Va.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with pastor Mike Parks officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Tammy Jo Hood, 59, died Thursday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Born in Charlottesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Dillon Morris and June Evelyn Bibb Hood.

For more than 30 years of her nursing career, she cared for patients at many locations including Cherry Hospital, Liberty Commons in Benson, Kenansville Health and Rehabilitation, the Brian Center and 3HC-Home, Health and Hospice.

A funeral service will be held Friday, March 22, 2019, at noon in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with pastor Andrew Price officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 11 a.m., at the funeral home.
