Ila Mae Corbett

Ila Mae Corbett, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, May 3, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.
Mrs. Corbett was born in Johnston County on May 29, 1936, to the late Harvey G. Pearce and Marcella Woodard Pearce. She was a faithful member of Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church for over 60 years, serving as Sunday school secretary and treasurer.
She is survived by her son, Thurston Wayne Corbett of Goldsboro; two daughters, Anita Corbett Mitchell and husband, Wayne, of Princeton and Tammie Corbett of Goldsboro; two brothers, Frank Pearce and wife, Grace, of Princeton and Graham Pearce and wife, Dolores, of Macon, N.C.; two sisters, Neda Crites of Goldsboro and Edna Creech and husband, Billy, of Wilson Mills; two grandchildren, Stephen Wayne Mitchell and Danielle Nicole Mitchell; and two great-grandchildren, Sophia Mitchell and Camden Mitchell.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Corbett was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston Corbett, and a brother, Donald Ray Pearce.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, May 6, 2019, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro and other times at the residence.

Ann Phillips Baker

Virginia Ann Phillips Baker, 87, Goldsboro, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Wayne UNC Health Care.
Ann was born in Snowville, Va., on Oct. 21, 1931, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Cox Phillips. She was married to the late Joseph Edwin Baker. Ann was employed for many years as a cake decorator with Winn-Dixie and always enjoyed the opportunity to work in her garden. She will also be remembered as a talented seamstress and made the wedding dresses for her daughters. Above all, Ann loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Ann’s life at 7 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Joanna Stallings officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday at noon in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Ann is survived by her children, Kay Baker Scheetz of Hampton, Va., Robert Owen Baker and wife, Karen, of Mount Olive, and Elizabeth “Beth” B. Gettle of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Melissa Koos, Sara Ruhl (Tobias), Alison Baker, Meredith Batchelor (Jonathan), Army Specialist Lukas Baker, Kelly Gettle and Brett Gettle; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Koos, Brandon Batchelor, Natalie Koos, Haleigh Batchelor, Kamryn Baker, Wesley Ruhl, Branna Baker, Elora Toran and Claire Ruhl. She is also survived by her brother, John Phillips; and sisters, Barbara Phillips, Helen Monroe and Dot Lancaster.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark Gettle; daughter, JoAnne Joyner; and brother, Davis Phillips.

Walter Eugene Allen, 82, of 3671 N.C. 33 West, Greenville, formerly of Johnston County, died Saturday.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hephzibah Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Malin and the Rev. Danny Hoell officiating.
He was born Nov. 8, 1936, and was the son of the late Walter Millard and Asolee Daughtry Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Jasa Elizabeth Hawks Allen; and five sons.
