Bobby L. Brewer

Bobby Langdon Brewer, 85, Goldsboro, passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his home.
Born in Sampson County March 1, 1934, Bobby was the son of the late Bennett Langdon Brewer and Letha Caroline Daughtry Brewer.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, and was a charter member of Pineview Baptist Church.
Bobby was also a member of Gideons International North Camp.
Bobby retired from Jefferson Pilot Insurance Co. after 30 years of service, and later enjoyed working with Wooten Oil Co.
He was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors, on the water or in the woods. Bobby was a hunter of small game, and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun and one of the bird dogs he had trained.
Bobby loved all sports, especially baseball and softball.
He also enjoyed the opportunity to play golf with his friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Pineview Baptist Church.
A service to celebrate his life will follow at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Wes Johnson and the Rev. Tim Morris officiating. Interment will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ernestine F. Brewer; children, Lisa B. Hodges and husband, Phil, of Bear Grass and Bennett L. Brewer and wife, Cristy, of Pikeville; grandchildren, Brian Hodges, Caroline Hodges, Rachel Hodges and Zackery Brewer; sister, Carolyn Sumner; brothers, Fulton Brewer and Jimmy Brewer; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Humphries, and brother, Grover Brewer.

Iris Little Lee Gurley, 94, passed away at her home in Princeton surrounded by her family Tuesday, May 28, 2019.
She was born in Altavista, Va., Nov. 16, 1924, to the late Latta Little and Annie Beaty Little.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Bernard Lee; son, Bobby Eugene Lee; and second husband, Norwood Leamon Gurley.
The funeral service will be held at Princeton Baptist Church Friday, May 31, 2019, at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Rose and the Rev. Dwayne Batten officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery Monday, June 3, 2019, at 10 a.m.
The family will receive friends at Princeton Baptist Church Friday, May 31, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Mrs. Gurley was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Goldsboro, and a past member of Princeton Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Gideon Auxillary, active in America Business Women’s Association, active in the Cancer Society and also won Woman of the Year with the American Business Women’s Association.
She enjoyed baking, and had also catered in years past.
She is survived by son, Curtis Lee of Princeton; daughter, Delores Lee of Princeton; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Christina and Jason Stanley; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Stanley and Bridget Stanley; and two stepchildren, Sandra Mooring and Felix Gurley.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in James T. Haskins Memorial Chapel of Haskins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eastern Carolina Veterans Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 1, 1946, to Vincent Sr. and Jessie May Spencer Weeks.

She was born May 12, 1936, in Duplin County to Donnie Lewis and Mary Ruth Stroud Barnette. She was married to the late Billy Ray Newsome.
