Lila Smith Everett, 79, of Goldsboro, N.C., passed away peacefully on May 12, 2019, at Kitty Askins Hospice.

She was born on March 13, 1940, to Garland Howard and Lucy Willingham Smith, of Lindale, Ga. She graduated from Rome High School, attended Hollins College and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1962. She was a sister of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 56 years, William Harrell Everett Jr.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Frank Edmondson, of Edenton and Raleigh, N.C., and Ann and Adlai Wood, of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren, Adlai Wood Jr., William Everett Wood and Lila Frances Wood; two sisters and their husbands, Joe and Ann Frierson, of Athens, Ga., and David and Nancy Hunter, of Rome, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Larry Chesson, of Williamston, N.C., and Jim and Carolyn Roberts Everett, of Chevy Chase, Md.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lila worked as a social worker with Edgecombe County Social Services and the Wayne County Sheltered Workshop, and as Personnel Director of the Goldsboro Family Y. At St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, she served in many ways, including as a member of the vestry, head of the Outreach and Memorials Committees, EYC leader and Sunday school teacher. In the community, Lila’s service included being one of the first volunteer Guardian ad Litem for Wayne County and a reading tutor with Community in Schools.

A memorial service with internment will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 200 N. James St., Goldsboro. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Dr., Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Edith Holland Lancaster, 80, of the Patetown community, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Edith was born in Wayne County on Feb. 3, 1939, to the late Roland and Lillian Valentine Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ray Thomas Lancaster, on May 1, 2019.

Edith worked hard to take care of her family and had been employed by Cozart Packing Company, Imperial Sandwich Company, Excell-Linde Manufacturing and with First Baptist Church Child Development Center.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the Pikeville Cemetery with Vickie Mozingo officiating.

Edith is survived by her son, Dale R. Lancaster and wife, Tammy; daughter, Kathy L. Lewis and husband, William; grandchildren, Heather L. Jackson and husband, Justin, Christopher E. Zieg, Brian E. Lancaster and wife, Cassandra, David S. Lancaster and Amy Z. Wright and husband, Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Addison C. Jackson, Mason C. Jackson, Reagan E. Wright and Iris Y. Lancaster. She is also survived by her brothers, Billy Holland and Gary Holland.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Hales, and brother, Albert Holland.

Mildred “Mickey” McClenny McLawhorn, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Goldsboro Assisted Living in Goldsboro.

Mickey was born in Wayne County on Jan. 30, 1927, to the late Junie and Hattie Cotton McClenny. She was married to the late Joseph Cecil McLawhorn. Mickey owned and operated Mac’s Pastry in Goldsboro for many years. She was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Mickey’s life at 11 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Richard Toler officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mickey is survived by her son, Charles Kent McLawhorn and wife, Angie; daughter, Cecilia Ann Cannaday and husband, Bobby; sisters, Betty Lou Case and Barbara Jean Price; brother, Bill McClenny; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Ann Smith.

Edwin (Bill) C. English, 93, of Old Grantham Road, died Sunday.

A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. Hwy. 117 S., Dudley, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service.

Surviving is a daughter, Debbie Chestnut, of Magnolia; sons, Billy English and Joe English, both of Wallace; two stepdaughters, Sheila Custer and Penny Wiggs, of Goldsboro; sister, Dora Riverbark, of Kenansville; a grandchild; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

A native of the Deep Bottom community of Duplin County, and was preceded in death by his parents, Dora Pauline Brown English and Edgar Steven English; his wives Ann English and Margaret Edwards English; a daughter, Caron Ann English; and a stepson, Johnnie Mobley.

Lisa Hix Kersey, 51, of 995 McArthur Pond Road, died Friday at home.

Funeral will be today at 6 p.m. at Pauline Baptist Church, Four Oaks, with Dr. Robert Cooke and the Rev. Wade Hall officiating.

She was born Dec. 12, 1967, in Wake County to Marvin Eugene III and Sandra Hayes Hix.

She is survived by four children.
